It would be great to have a system to highlight them and go to a spot on the page for definitions. That may be a software Mt. Everest but it would help a lot of people, no matter how much better we are than when we began.

I am a member of some forums that have this feature. Abbreviations that show up in a post have an underline and you can hover over it to see the definition. It's a nice feature. :)

You mean like this CRA.

So do we. You just have to use it.

I'm still kind of a newbie. I started reading everything about 2 yrs. ago, a few months before I filed BK. I joined a little over a year ago, when I wanted to post my first question.

As far as personalities go, I do agree with some of the comments about snarky replies, when they aren't warranted, however, I've gotten used to it, and it's likely that I've still learned a lot from some of these replies.

From a still-noob point of view, it is difficult to search for some info, before asking. The search engine doesn't search for 2 or 3 letter inquiries. Since many questions/posts involve subjects framed like 'DCU CLI', for example, there are many things that are unsearchable.

The fact is most people do read the “Newbie section."

Citation?

Site restricted Google searches are always an option. For searching this site just add this to your keywords:

site:creditboards.com

When I want to search, I use google like this:

site:creditboards.com (insert key words here)

I learned that from BobWang btw. :D

Well dang, if that doesn't make things easier! Thanks, Mendelssohn, and of course, Sir BW.

I think of all the boards that I've frequented over time that this is probably one of the most civil, without a doubt.

Maybe it used to be nicer before? I've only been here for a short time so I can't say.

What I can say is that, like everything else in life, if you take initiative to try and learn something on your own before just simply asking others to give you the answers, the outcome will be far more successful.

Read your post and couldn't resist the temptation to reply. I'm kinda a newbie here. When I first came to this site I read and read and read the pinned topics and threads. And every now and again I would ask a question. Once, If I remember correctly, I got the "go read some more newbie cause you ain't ready". I just laughed it off and kept reading. Now that I am learning the ropes I appreciate the mentality of the members. Sometimes even I see a question and roll my eyes. It's very easy to pick out the people who have put in the work and post questions just for clarification. In my opinion however, most of the time this is not the case. While CB is not perfect, with 133,000 member's :yes2: how could it be, but I'll take it however I can get it. In the long run my family will be better off for all the advice I'm getting on this site. Between my DH and I we have almost 40 deletions since the 1st of this year! And I'm not going to comment on the other points you made. I'm a toddler at a dinner party for adults, and I'm not ticking off mommy or daddy! :blush2:

Hahaha...I like that last comment...cute! :D

Rather than saying, "While CB is not

perfect...," I contend that it would be

more accurate to say that CB may very

well be "perfect" -- however, not a single

one of its 133K human members can

be accused of perfection. :blush2:

It's all about perspective... ;)

I miss a lot of what this board used to be. Long ago, the vast majority were in Fixer Upper mode of credit repair AND we could get so much more done than we seem to be able to do today. :( (Obviously, not the boards fault) I also miss George.

I stopped dropping by for a time because this board seemed wayyyyy tooooooo "How can I get bigger limits" and the latest joiner to the 700 or 800 club. I rarely saw posts of a newbie needing help. Then the crash happened and I seem many more posts that say "due to the crash...." And now I see the board back in helper mode.

One of the forums I'm a member of (for IT professionals) inserts it automatically for common abbreviations, no interaction required by the user. It's a vBulletin forum, so I dunno if that matters or not.

The signal-to-noise ratio has definitely dropped. Lots of simply wrong info here these days, unfortunately.

And I, too, miss GEORGE, he of the steak dinner and the Wal*Mart.

What happened to George? :dntknw:

Ron.

GEORGE HAS LEFT ON HIS OWN ACCORD IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT HE JUST STOPPED LOGGING IN I HAVE DONE A FEW TRIBUTES TO GEORGE

+/- 111 POINTS OR MORE

I have noticed over the past 10 years an increase in the TYPE of assistance that people want ( or demand). When some of us started ( WAAY before Creditboards) it was to help folks who had REAL problems, being harassed by CAs being sued for out of SOL debts etc. Now people want to know their scores minute by minute and how they can rack up as many new accounts as possible.

In addition, they seem to want instant gratification of their every request. They feel they don't want to waste their precious time looking things up or reading the basics. They want to be able to quickly "click" a link for an answer and are upset that everything isn't made easier.

We can't turn the forums into a "tweet experience" and those of us who have spent countless hours helping others with NO remuneration get somewhat annoyed that SOME posters seem to feel that their time is too valuable to spend any of it in basic preparation or research.

If someone annoys me, I close down my responses to them and put them on "ignore" I do the same with one or two of my fellow long time posters if I have been aggravated by something they have put into their signatures, or annoyed by some unkind or political comment.

A short aside, Why Chat: I was able to achieve a payment plan with the OC! with my medical issue that I posted about and made the thread of in your forum, and keep it off my credit reports. I was unable to update the thread in recent time, but I did achieve this result.

I thank you so much for your advice, and guidance. Without it, I would not have been able to achieve that result, and that was the desired result.

Thank you, with all sincere gratitude. I do appreciate your advice!

Same for all veteran members here!

:good:

And thank you all, once more.

+ 1000%.

Should Not have to explain the very basics on the FDCPA, the FCRA or legal issues - these are all available with a itty bit of research online - the FTC, the CFPB and your state legislatures' websites.

( not to mention CB' resource forum, which has links to or .pdf's on all of the above

This place is quite civil. If you want to be fed to the lions, there's a finance board starting with "Fat." I sometimes post there when I feel like being beaten up.

Fat is where you go once you have your sh!t together and want to learn how to profit from your shiny new credit. Most of the people there have never had bad credit and cant give the slightest bit of accurate advice for those that don't. The few that know, refer those questions back to here.

I strongly believe that, while there is a great amount to be learned from that site, you owe a debt to to this one. That's why I stick around here and offer whatever I can.

Besides, people are cooler here.
