Hoping to get a secured credit card using a TU pull... credit is in the upper 500's but TU is clean except for my foreclosure...Are these hard pulls and will a credit union be pretty easy going with a secured card? would prefer one that translates into an unsecured card... if wishes were horses..thanks to all. tried naval credit union but my father served but did not get a pension so it didn't work...

I'm not familiar with secured cards, but just did a quick search in the data pulls database for you. If you type in 'secured' as the creditor, it provides a list of creditors that offer these types of cards, approval scores, and CRA used. It might be best not to select 'transunion' so that you can have a more accurate view of whether the same creditor has a variance on the CRA they pull. Also, the google search option on here brought up several threads dedicated to secured cards; although I'm not sure if they are outdated or provide the report that is pulled for an approval decision. However, the threads may help with info on whether the card graduates to unsecured.

Hopefully this gets you started in your search and maybe some members with secured cards will come along with some specific suggestions.

Good luck

You might try freezing EX and EQ and trying Bank of America or NFCU if you are eligible. Those are the only 2 I can think of that graduate that you can sometimes persuade to pull TU. You probably have a better chance with NFCU.

If your scores are in that range, don't focus only on cards that graduate. I think there is too much emphasis on whether or not the cards graduate at times on CB. The important thing is to get something positive reporting.

Have you tried for an unsecured CC with Cap1?

The Cap1 and SDFCU secured CCs are good options for you.

thanks all, my other scores are even lower as TU is the only one deleting on time under the NY 5 year purge. I still have to deal with a big Citi. I settled with Cap 1 through Portfolio and I am waiting for that to fall off before I apply..I also have a mortgage in foreclosure but Bank of A has sold it, the loan, and I can't find out who owns it (SLS services loan but won't tell me, had a lawyer write a letter to them as I want to make an offer to take loan out of foreclosure...). My AAOA has suffered greatly but I have gone from showing $100K+ outstanding to about $30K, including one enormous Citi...accruing at 30% interest / year since 2010. Does an AU help at all anymore? I have a lot of cash in bank from a settlement but its hard to pay off these suckers.. I am down to all OC's and some have sold out to CA's who bagged them years ago and could not Validate. Citi is a problem because I went on a payment plan with them to get my card back and then they suckerpunched me by raising rate again and closing card forever. NOT NICE. going to an attorney on that one who specializes in credit law.

Thank you thank you thank you. Liz

If EX and EQ are not deleting, file a complaint with the CFPB.

Open at least 1 secured CC for now and don't worry about whether or not it graduates. SDFCU has a great secured CC with no AF, rewards and no credit check. Put as much money towards the deposit as possible and it will help you with credit limits later.
