I filed a complaint against EQ with the FTC for their defective “online service” and/or false advertising. I am planning a CFPB complaint against them for a whole different list of reasons, so I wanted to spread the luv and throw one at the FTC that fully falls under their authority.

I’m one of those who has never made it to the C* List, and my softs accumulate until my file jams up and I can’t access my report. EQ Consumer Services tells me EQ Information Services has to fix it; EQ Info Svcs tells me EQ Consumer Svcs has to fix it…BOTH tell me it’s my own fault for pulling my report too often. And no one fixes it until I insist on cancelling.

You cannot offer a product, and then blame a consumer for the failure of said product, when the consumer is using the product AS ADVERTISED.

This is the second round of this issue with EC, and they picked the wrong week to mess with this consumer.

This rant is about the CRAs in general, but I do not understand why it's "harder" for them and their staff to do what is supposed to done, rather than make thousands of people unhappy (and potentially violate the rights of millions of unsuspecting consumers). I appreciate you for the time, energy, and frustration you are investing in these efforts. I just hope nobody uses the phrase "you go girl" in this thread.

LMAO...you and me both, buddy! Although, I've been told to "go" with less-supportive phrasing...so I suppose I ought to be grateful, should that happen.

I think the unfortunate answer with the CRAs, is that it all depends on who you talk to. If you talk to a CSR that's on-the-ball, and takes their job seriously. If you talk to one that's lazy, they'll put in the minimal effort to help you - and will defer to regulations that they claim prevent them from helping you. The only thing I've found that has helped me in most cases, is to ask to be transferred to the US-based call center. Those CSRs are usually more senior, and have more power to actually help you over the phone.

I might join you on this, as I always run into the EXACT same problem.

If you never made it to the C* list, how is your file getting jammed? I've been pulling USAA for almost 2 years straight without a problem.

I think the culprit is the EC product. I haven't specifically heard of this happening to anyone who isn't on C* List and only uses USAA or MPM. That doesn't mean it hasn't happened -- just haven't heard of it. But I believe the other CBers who've posted about this were/are also using EC.

@NewbietoFinance: Correct me if I'm wrong, but you use EC, right?

BW, you know you don't count -- I'll always consider you the exception to any rule!

If someone were to hold a gun to my head and force me to put a bumper sticker on my car, it would read "I BRAKE FOR BOB WANG"... :clapping:

+1 You go girl!!

EQC sucks.

Okay...you'd be another exception I'd allow. But all the rest of you smart@$$e$ are cut off!

(And EQC sux even more than they did earlier today. I made the mistake of calling them, and they bamboozled me...again.) :swoon:

Okay...call me hard-headed, but apparently there's some truth to the 85 posts I've read about how cancelling EC can unlock one's jammed-up file.

I had resisted this solution for a few reasons:

  1. I've never made it to the C* block...so why not keep it to view my SPs...?
  2. I was only paying $9.98/mo. (Until it recently malfunctioned, I didn't even know I could freeze/unfreeze my file at no extra charge!) :(
  3. I'd tried several OTHER solutions that worked for other folks, and those never worked for me (archiving, calling for manual chop, etc.) I just figured this one wouldn't apply to my case, either.

I finally got disgusted and cancelled by email, because every time I call, I get railroaded into giving them "time to fix it" for a refunded fee or a renewed discount period.

I received two emails yesterday -- one confirming refund of this month's fee; one confirming cancellation.

This morning MPM pulled EQ for the first time in 2 weeks. :blush2:
