I'm about to send my first DV. Is it okay to use an online service to send CMRRR such as LetterStream? Or does that somehow defeat the purpose of the CMRRR? The only thing I can think of is I might not be able to add the tracking number to the letter itself.

I like the personal touch. You can order supplies online the the green card and the certified mail barcode for free. That way you are all set when you go to the PO, just need a $6 something stamp.

I worked for the PO for many years. The green card (CMRRR) is going by the wayside. We raised the question some years ago if the electronic RRR would suffice for legal requirements and we were told it is the same. All the customer needs to do is run off a copy. You can get it at www.usps.com.

I vote USPS CMRRR only. Always embed the CM# into your letters.

The objective is to have proof of delivery recognized by our judicial system. It looks like Letterstream uses the USPS system for delivery and proof.

I've use certified mail labels site for a DV and it worked well for me. Uploaded a PDF and they took care of the rest.

They even sent me envelopes so I could just print the postage at home in the future instead of having them mail it if I preferred.

I'm tempted to try this since I'm having such bad luck with the Post Office. 2 lost Certified letters and countless delayed ones.

Ours is good but it's hard when you work before they open and after they close.

And my fault lies in being lazy and not going on Saturdays. It's a compromise but it's worked so far, I'm preparing a batch of about 20 letters to go in the coming week.

I've used Click2mail with much success. They also just added Click2mail to Google Docs, so you can send your stuff from there.

Yeah, I'll take a line at USPS just for the sake of security.

It is also possible to have it all ready to be mailed before you go up to the counter!

That green card is your legal proof of delivery, no matter how much the good old fashioned USPS may or may not suck.

Letterstream is a great way to send Certified Mail with the electronic return receipt (ERR). If you format the letter for a standard double window envelope, then they can print the certified tracking number and barcode directly on the letter. Just upload your PDF and the letter gets mailed quickly, with tracking and the ERR available online, along with a copy of the letter that was mailed. Fast, easy, and no waiting on long lines at the Post Office.

The electronic certified mail is how some of our deployed members have been able to continue their credit repair even while stationed where there is no USPS office around the corner.
