I'm building credit from zero, no open accounts and no negatives. I've applied for an received a Capital One Quicksilver One. I've since read that applying for credit triggers collections (and I've since opted out). A week ago I got a collection from Enhanced Recovery for less than $250. It has now landed on all three CRAs. It is four years old and the original account is AT&T.

I never received a dunning letter from Enhanced Recovery. This is my first time dealing with collections on my credit report. I believe I'm supposed to start with a debt validation letter sent by certified mail return receipt (or fax?). I was going to use this as a template.

I've seen a lot of advice on these letters. Some say hand write them them they won't be read by a computer. Others say never sign your name because they forge your signature. Also, I'm not sure what to do after I've sent this letter. What steps to I take with the CRAs to remove the debt?

I've found steps that start from the dunning letter, but I'm not sure how to proceed when it lands on my credit report without a dunning letter. If there ever was a dunning letter it would have been four years ago.

I disputed a collection from AT&T and it fell right off because they could not produce an itemized invoice to explain the extremely high collection charge. Chances are if you dispute, neither Enhanced Recovery or AT&T can explain the amount they are collecting for which is most likely isn't the amount you originally owed when services were interrupted.

DV them, they tend to fold easy.

they popped up on my reports during my mortgage process. I sent a DV immediately and they were gone from all three reports within a few days.

I disputed Enhance Recovery last month via online with all 3 CRA's for a Comcast Bill 6 years old. It was deleted in 20 days from all bureaus...

I just finished dealing with Enhanced Recovery.. They do fold very quickly. I disputed with the bureaus and sent a DV. Just got responses from TU and EX that the account was deleted. Still waiting on EQ. Enhanced Recovery STILL hasn't produced a DV and its been 30 days!

Hope this helps!

I asked this in another thread; should I send them mail from a Texas address? There are plenty of mail forwarding services. Using a forwarding service, I can send them a CMRRR telling them to respond to a Texas address and say that they are not bonded in Texas.

It is my only derog. It is for less than ~$250. I'm looking to hammer them as hard as possible so they decide I'm not worth it.

Trying to pull stuff like that serves no purpose but to possibly make life a little more difficult for those that try things like this. Just send a DV as advised.

Dear Enhanced Recovery,

You have added information to my credit report. I dispute your claims in their entirety and request validation pursuant to the FDCPA.

Be advised that I am not requesting a "verification" that you have my mailing address, I am requesting a validation, that is, competent evidence that I have some contractual obligation to pay you. Also, please provide the original creditor's name, address, and date of last activity.

It is inconvenient for me to communicate by phone. Send all communication to the address above.

Sincerely,

My Name

This is a draft of my validation letter based on what I've read in the forums. I want to send it tomorrow morning. The account number will be as it appears on my Equifax report. No signature.

How does it look?

Perfect.

The DV is in the mail and I'm tracking it's progress at the post office web site.

The instant it is received, send dispute letter to CRA. Have it ready to go so you can send immediately.

in my opinion I wouldn't advise this. If anything it may cause a delay. It seems like enhanced folds after pretty much every DV. I'd just send the DV and watch it fall off the report.

Do a DV asap. I just got a collection from them deleted from my reports. Like you I'd never received a dunning letter and only found out about it after reviewing my reports.

Received Enhanced Recovery's response to my DV and they included docs from a bill from 2008! Needless to say they deleted from my CRs.

ASAP.

Thank you everyone. My DV arrived today. @BDK says to send a letter to the CRAs. Could do. @ultra2207 says that with ERC it's better to just wait on the DV because they fold so easily. I'm going to wait because so many people said to simply DV. Does anyone feel strongly that I should one-two punch?

Thank you for all the community support. This has been a great experience thanks to CB.

Also, my EX FAKO went up. It started at 732, then down 604 thanks to ERC, now 626. Yes, just a FAKO, but its good to know that my score might recover even if I can't shake this ERC baddie.

The DV was the right move. They added a collection to my reports, and after some reading here, I DVed em. Within 2 weeks of them receiving the reports, collection deleted from all 3 reports.
