Any speculation as to whether or not Barclays will continue to issue this card after the merger or if just the current cards will be grandfathered in? I'm guessing that Citi would fight against it.

From what I understand, the current cards will be grandfathered in, but no new cards.

This might help answer some questions

You guys see this 40K offer or US Air miles in general devaluing @ 2015 changeover?

I think you'll get more benefits/ upside to US Air miles than you would United or Delta. You can now book AA flights with US air miles on the US site with adds to their value. Plus it's worth it to get 40k in miles for $89 and a pack of gum.

Are you planning on keeping yours, FH?

I'm eventually going to close mine and move the CL to another card.

I think I will keep it open for the history. I'm still in the upper 600's and I have about 2- 2 1/2 years before my remaining baddies fall off so I don't want to close or mess with too many accounts. There's no other Barclays card that I'm that interested in right now and I'm an American flyer. That being said I also have the Citi AA executive and Citi AA Plat cards that I use for the miles and club membership so if something exciting comes along I might switch cards.

I have the Citi Plat card as well, although I missed out on the 100K Exec offer. I'm in the Dallas area, so I'll take all the AA miles I can get.

We got the 100k bonus which was sweet. The only reason we were able to meet the spend was because of moving from Chicago to LA. We waited to app right before we started to pay for moving expenses and racked up $10k in less than 2 months. It also was nice because the wife got a $5k moving allowance at her new job so it was easy to pay it off.

Nice! I'm hoping the 100K offer comes around again, but I'm not counting on it.

I have a feeling it will again right before the merger. If you're in the airport again any time soon stop buy the admirals club and see what offer they can get for you.

I've had the Platinum $89 annual fee version of this card a year this Nov. Tonight I called customer service and asked how the different levels were decided. I spoke to 2 reps who didn't have a clue. The first rep told me MasterCard decided. The second one told me to reapply and see if I get approved for the world version! I requested a supervisor and he had a brain. I explained that I wasn't really interested in paying $89 annually for a subpar level when others have the world version for the same fee. He verified Barclay decided the level and limit... Duh. He checked my account for upgrades and offers for about 2 minutes. Though I didn't have any offers or upgrades, he waived the annual fee that was coming up on Nov 28th. Works for me!!

I'll be using my new Venture card I was approved for 2 weeks ago w/ $20k limit.

The Barclays US Air card will eventually look similar to this.

That's sexy... although anything is an improvement right now... damn Braniff card.

OMG, the current US Air card is the ugliest thing I have ever had in my wallet.

+1

Hmm for some reason I never really gave this card much of a look. For $89 and a single purchase 40,000 miles is a pretty decent deal especially if they can be used on AA.

It's not a deal. It's a STEAL!! Its worth a go for anyone looking to pick up another card. TU is usually peoples best report when it comes to lower number of hard pulls, and that's on thing Barclays likes. That is unless you're a B* master.

I heard that once the US Airways converts no new applications will be accepted.

Correct.

Yep. Citi will be the main issuer of AA cobranded cards but Barclays is trying hard to get a piece of that, if not all of it, in the near future.

Barclay's just gave me an auto CLI on Sallie Mae after I was turned down for one the month before after taking a HP for it. I've also picked up 2 new cards in the past few weeks and a CLI on my Fidelity Amex (all TU). Do you know roughly when this card will be discontinued?

Sometime in the second quarter of 2015 when the miles programs merge.

I'm thinking it will be around June 2015. I'm not 100% sure, nor do I think anyone else (bloggers) is 100% on when it will actually happen. The US Air benefits will end at the end of this year form what I understand.

Great, thanks. So I don't have to rush right out and get this immediately.

I would consider doing it soon if you want to take advantage some of the benefits it currently has like the companion ticket. I believe if you book soon using the companion ticket it's good for travel through most of next year. I'll try to find more details.
