Hey everyone! I have been looking around and decided that this is the best place to discuss credit and get some real help raising my score. Right now it is a 596, eww. My first step was to sign up with credit repair.com, who, for 90 bucks a month, will be disputing the many blemishes on my credit reports. They now have all 3 reports that I have provided for them.

My next step was to remove myself as an authorized user on my gf's 2 cards. These were my only credit cards so I didn't want to do this, but they are maxed out and i was advised to remove myself because it will remove debt from my report without a negative of closing an account.

After that, I applied for an was very surprised to get approved for a 500 dollar limit CapitalOne card, which is in the mail. My plan is to use that to pay for the credit repair.com service and pay it every month.

My real question is, what do you guys think of creditrepair.com? Will their disputes really help me raise my score? 90 dollars a month is a lot for me right now, especially because I am finally grown up enough to stop ignoring collections agencies and really get my score up.

Is creditrepair.ciom worth it?

My Goal is to have above a 620 within 3 months and above a 700 by next year. I hope I'm accepted by you guys here at the forums and I'm eager to learn.

Thanks for reading this! And I hope I can become an expert and in the future, after fixing my score, stay on this board and help others!

Danny

I am very intrigued by the DIY approach, but I'm not quite sure where to start. You guys think I should cancel my credit repair service and learn to dispute things myself? I need to get some of the items off my reports ASAP.

You just heard from two real experts on this board. I know its tempting to just pay someone else to do it all, but I would follow MarvBear and Mendelssohn's advice.

I'd start by doing lots and lots of reading on the boards, especially the pinned topics. People here will give you a lot of help once they see that you are serious about this and working and doing your part. Best to you!

We do wish to welcome you to the board. This forum in all it's categories has years and years of posts and advice.

What may have taken years (or not) to fall into disrepair, will not be improved overnight. But YOU can move it along at your own pace. And pay nothing. Cept a lil bit of postage.

I tell you this from self experience .. YEARS ago I paid one of these services they sent letters to the CRAs for everything on my report, in each letter for each negative tradeline they claimed it was not mine. That landed FAs on all my reports as well as I played hell trying to ever dispute them again, and some just had to age off. They caused me alot of headaches and extra work.

welcome to the boards. Come back with specific questions about your reports and you will get lots of advice for FREE and make new friends as well. Good luck to you OP!!!

I think almost every question that you could possibly ever think of regarding credit is on here at cb. Believe me. Go through even the last 10 pages. You will learn a ton.

Cancel that credit repair service ASAP. They are a waste of money and don't do their job effectively. Trust me... I had one of these services for 12 days and I said goodbye in a heartbeat. If you have any questions, feel free to pm me. I am a newbie myself, but I learned a ton here in the 3 months I was here. My friends now call me the credit expert. Lol :D
