Wow. I can really hardly believe it. I've had my Cap 1 card for three years now. Never late. It started at 300, and after 5 months (credit steps) went to 500, and there it sat.

I've been reading and reading about changes at Cap 1, so I decided to call them, not for an increase, which I was sure would never happen, but to see if I could get the annual fee removed. The CSR I spoke with was incredibly friendly and helpful. She was looking into my account and asked me if I wanted her to check for any offers at the same time. I said yes.

She came back and stated that while I didn't qualify for removal of the fee, she could upgrade me to Quicksilver cash rewards. I took it.

I asked her about a CLI then, and she recommended I apply on the website. She assured me there would be no inquiry. Because she was so helpful, I did. Instant result-Congratulations! Your new credit limit is 1000.00! I was literally stunned. My first 4 figure limit in years! Capital One really does seem different. If anyone is wavering, I say give it a try!

Another month or two and I'll be ready to apply for a card with Navy.

These boards are great. I get so much useful information. Hope this helps someone else here.

@krish and gdale6: Do you really think I could have a shot with EO for AF removal at this point? You guys are inspiring me. I may just call them tomorrow. Or email.

@mendelsson: I am waiting for three reasons. First, I am paying down my low limit cards, so that they are not high utilization. and Second, I have some CA's with Midland that will be SOL by August. Actually they are SOL now, because they were in Arizona when the AZ SOL was three years, but I don't want to stir up any problems with them. I know that NAVY will report my employer, and my CR's haven't had an employer in 6 years listed. And Third, I just opened my Navy account two months ago, and when I did I was seeing an offer for a secured card. I want to wait until I qualify for an unsecured. Do those reasons make sense to you? I'll be ready to apply in three months.

Definitely contact the EO about getting the AF waived. You have nothing to lose.

You know, thanks for that. You are right. I use that philosophy in every other area of my life, but get afraid somehow when dealing with the credit issues. I have nothing to lose. You are right. I'll call tomorrow!

Congratulations!!!! :clapping::clapping: Cap One surprised me today just past the 5th month of my credit steps I logged into my account today and my limit went from 300 to 1300 :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

Wow! Congratulations! It looks like even their credit steps CLI's are getting more reasonable/generous.

It sounds like you have a good plan.

UPDATE:

Thank you all for recommending I contact the EO. I called them yesterday, they called me back today. Nice as could be. The gentleman asked me if there was any thing else I wanted him to look into about my card. I thought about asking for another CLI, but I don't want to go too fast with new credit, I want to make sure i handle each new limit appropriately, so the 1000 is enough for me. I told him no, just the AF. He said "I've taken it off the account forever." I said forever? I'll never get it again? He said "It's already done." And then he said "your fee for this year hasn't posted yet, so I went back and removed the fee from last April. You should see it in your account within a few days."

I am really feeling good about Cap 1, like it IS a card I'd like to keep a long relationship with. My experience now is different than any experience I've had with them before. It really seemed like they wanted to develop a good long term relationship. I think a key is that my credit really has improved, and I really have taken excellent care of my account with them for three years. Thanks to all of you for your great advice. It was all the posts I read here on the boards that inspired me even ask.

Could someone please PM me the contact info for the EO (email and phone if possible)? I have two cards with them that I haven't been able to get the annual fee removed and would like to give the EO a try.

Congrats. That's great that they got rid of the AF forever. I also think they are trying to get rid of some of their older cards and seem to be happy to switch people to the QS1. Hopefully this will encourage others to revisit their old Cap One cards while rebuilding.

I did an online chat and converted my Venture MC to a Quiksilver MC. This card was opened in 2007 and had been converted at some point to a Venture card. I talked to the EO at the end of 2012 and got the limit upped.

Decided that the Quiksilver reward structure was better for me - was glad I was able to do it via online chat (quick and easy).

I couldn't resist. I called back EO, and asked if they could lower my APR and CLI my card. The rep asked me what limit I wanted, I said 2000. He asked if I would accept less if offered. I said of course. Now I just have to wait a few more days. I wlll update when I hear.

The increase I already received should bump my score when it uploads later this month, making my utilization much better. That is the main reason I called again for another increase. If I get 2000, I can use 500 of it, and no really affect my util %.

And honestly, I am feeling totally different about Cap 1 than I used to. I truly feel that they are working to develop good realtionships with their customers.

I feel like they actually value my business. I think I may keep this card, and my oldest card BBRZ MC and just open a NAVY card, and that will be all I need going forward. Three cards. Seems fiscally prudent.

I started off with a 300$ limit in september. I was just granted an increase to $1,300 without even asking. I was shocked.

I got onto their chat service to ask to remove the annual fee but they said they couldn't do it at the time but did offer me an upgrade to the quicksilver rewards.

1.5% cashback not too bad. I'll be calling sometime in the future to ask them to waive the AF... by the way.. what is EO? And should I ask the 'EO' to waive the AF too?

I started with $500 last march, today it is at 5k. To top that off I was able to start rebuilding credit because they gave me a chance when my credit was not too good. I was able to remove all baddies except 1 and today my limits are in my signature. This forum is awesome and I do like Cap1 for giving me a chance when no one else would!
