I have a $677 charge off from Discover that has been updating every month on my reports as a charge off. It always shows on experian as a "late payment".

Two weeks ago I sent them a PFD letter. I know typically that doesn't work for OC, but thought I'd see if some magic happened. I'm two years before the SOL. Discover owns the debt, they've sent me a few settlement offers.

The letter I recieved back from them states:

"We researched the dispute of liability for the above refrenced account. We found the account and balances to be valid. Enclosed please find (copy of statements). Payment in full must be recieved within 30 days from date of this letter. Upon reciept of the payment will will report to the credit reporting agencies the account is paid in full. Remit payment to (address)

We will continue to report your account to the consumer reporting agencies as "disputed" unless you tell us to stop reporting disputed. "

So... what does that mean? I didn't dispute it, I asked for a PFD. Are the offering me a PFD?

Thanks... Jill

No mention of a delete... it appears they will 'update' the reporting to "paid in full" upon payment.

why would you ignore all advice around here and try a PFD with the OC within SOL?

outside SOL, maybe give it a shot, but within SOL that had absolutely no chance of working.

and now you've removed any leverage you had in a settlement discussion.

I had asked about this before and was told settling was a bad idea if I ever wanted a discover card in the future.... I have the money to PIF. Am I misguided in the thought that settling is a bad idea?
