I had to re-apply for a "new" Visa from my local CU,

great rewards program, rotating 5% categories.

I asked again for $100k,

but they would only do $50k.

Supposed max is $25k.

IIRC my local CU would let me do a secured card up to $100,000. A couple of years back I thought about maxing that and letting it report as such for a few reporting cycles, and then reducing the limit and corresponding deposit. I wasn't sure, though, how a $100,000 limit reduced to, say $10,000 would look on manual review...

I just put a pre-approval for an Alliant Platinum Visa onto the shred pile. I can still rescue it...

IIRC I read a post recently that said that under certain circumstances these pre approvals were done from prior softs, and that an application wouldn't result in a hard, even if approved. I could be wrong. Ring any bells?

I'm pretty sure Alliant will pull a hard.

I would think so, but that's why the post struck me. Of course I can't find it back. I think the comment was Trevor's.

I'm fairly sure I received a hard pull for my cc back then. Unless the hard was used for both membership and card..not positive on that. I also applied for the LOC shortly after that-less than a month iirc? It was either 1-2 hards for all three. For some reason the alliant experience was less memorable than my earlier Penfed, navy and nasa experiences, lol. I think I was most bummed by the fact that Alliant decreased its card max from the former 100K card Bob received months earlier. So, I missed it.

Now that I think about it.....and maybe Bob can confirm this too. I believe upon applying for Alliant's membership, many applicants received an auto approval for 10K on a visa. I turned it down at the time because I was shooting for usable limit. So, I completed a hard app.

I also missed the $100k limit,

my Visa is only $50k.

Back then Alliant did offer instant $10k approvals,

I didn't bite on that one either.

I think I ended up with 3 or 4 Alliant Equifax inquires,

but they didn't survive very long.

Everything I've experienced with Alliant so far has been completely forgettable too. :P I was excited about their "high-rate" savings account until I joined and then looked around elsewhere at other options, and found plenty of other places that paid more on liquid savings...

I can't say that any of their CCs are particularly alluring to use with any regularity either...

I researched every one of these in terms of their card offerings as well as eligibility requirements.

obviously I skipped the ones that require you to live in an area that I don't live in.

my short list in order of my most to least favorite is:

Northwest

Andrews

ABCO

Delta Community

MSU/Oakland U.

Alliant

anybody know which ones of these tend to be the most generous in their starting CL?

A few years ago Andrews flat out denied me for a Visa,

pyramiding credit cards.

I hear Delta is pretty generous.
