I'm starting to rack them up over here and wondering if I'm going a bit overboard. How many banks & CUs do you belong to and why?

  1. USAA
  2. Penfed
  3. NFCU
  4. Alliant
  5. local town CU
  6. BOA
  7. Chase
  8. PNC

-Just applied to logix & United Nations and DCU....

I belong to zero. Why so many? What is the benefit?

BOA has been my bank for years. I joined chase & PNC a few years ago for $$$ sign up bonus.

Now that I'm rebuilding I want to get in with some great CU's that will hopefully extend me larger than average CL's. So- I've joined a few that I can. Plan on dumping BOA, Chase & PNC. No real reason to keep them for my banking needs as my local CU has taken over that.

Also I have an itchy finger. I can't apply for any cards right now, I can't do much more with disputes until these current disputes come back to me... so I started collecting CU's. IDK. I need a new hobby I suppose!

Bank/Brokerages:

Bank of America/Merrill Lynch

CUs:

Alliant - Deposit rates

DCU - Good auto rates, generous credit

Logix - Jumped on the bandwagon

NFCU - Generous credit

PenFed - Hopefully will be generous with credit once my EQ is clean

PSECU - 20k Visa/PSL Combo, good BT promos, good auto rates

UNFCU - Chip+Pin card

Let's see...

CUs

DCU - auto loan, free FICO

Alliant - ACH hub

PenFed - 5% rewards on gas

SDFCU - no real use was going to get credit cards but they changed to EX pull

NRLFCU - Joined to get a discount on car insurance

GTE FCU - credit card

local CU - it's local, got my first car loan after BK

Banks

Chase - For convenience since I can't spit without hitting a local branch if needed.

Cap1 360 - Opened only for bonus

USAA - MIght get a CC at some point.

9 credit unions, many of the ones listed already and for mostly the same reasons. (NFCU, Penfed, Alliant, Lake Michigan, Provident, and others are local or not as well known)

15 banks, which is less than prior years - some opened for RCA's or special bonuses. (BOA,Chase,Citibank, BBVA, Wells Fargo -all kept open for credit card rewards, others mostly RCA's)

2 bank/brokerage accounts

Some accounts are a pain to close that are in other states, otherwise I would have fewer accounts.

We're new with Bank of America as of our holy union in December. I can say that this is the best service I've ever received from any financial institution.

The people in the branches are standard-issue big bank, but the people manning and wo-manning the Platinum phones are awesome.

We had PMAs at Wells Fargo but it didn't get us much. You only need to look at my $1,000 WF Cash Back Visa account to see that.
