Is posting a negative item on your credit report a form of collections? If this is the case then wouldnt you be able to get a CA or OC to remove the baddie from your report after the SOL has past?

A tradeline can be derogatory but not be a collection account.

 

Example would be an open credit card with late payment history.

Posting a collections on a credit report before sending any kind of letter to the person can be construed as a form of collections. See Sample Letter forum.

It's a moot point. SOL is an affirmative defense against a potential judgment. It does not erase the debt, which may be "collected" on until the end of time.

The first letter in Sample Letters addresses a collection reporting on a CE for which no dunning (initial) letter was sent.
