The Master obsolete delete time frame thread

Recommended Posts

I see this question posed quite often so I figured we could have a thread where people could post their obsolete deletes.

The info we would want to list should be; Which CRA, how many months till fall off, and how it was disputed.

I just had a few deleted from TU. I disputed them through US mail non certified. They were 5 months from deletion.

TU. 6 months early. Called in. I asked that they provide me with documents showing how they verified. They didn't give any indication that they would delete but credit monitoring showed deletion the next day.

I'm watching this thread. :)

Can you include what you had deleted? I'm particularly interested in whether it was an OC or JDB. I read somewhere here that the CRAs told someone that there was a difference but I haven't been able to find the thread again.

I have a bunch of things that will fall off in 6 months so I'm trying to decide when to pull the trigger.

Thanks!

I started this thread because I have a bunch of TLs between all 3 that fall off between now and Sept of 14. Before sending the disputes out I wanted to see what luck people have had.

I agree maybe we should list OC, CA, Mortgage, etc.

When you dispute online with TU there is a difference between OCs and CAs. If you look at the dispute reasons that you can choose you will notice that they are different. There is no option of too old to report for CAs, but it is there for OCs.

In the post that I read (and have never been able to find again) a poster reported that in a call to a CRA (I don't remember which one) the rep told the poster that they had more leeway with one type of account than another. I just don't remember which.

It was something like: if an OC is more than 2 months out, we have to check with OC but if a CA is within 6 months, we can just delete...

It drives me crazy that I can't find the post now. :(

I've had CAs deleted 3 months early via online dispute with EX, 4 months early via phone dispute on TU and never early on EQ. I also had an OC deleted 3 months early on TU via phone dispute.

I had 1 tradeline on TU deleted 5 mo early. Another 5 mo early was verified, disputed it again and was deleted 4 months early on 2nd try.

I dispute one at a time. I have one obsolute dispute on TU in now and they usually answer in about two weeks. all are OC's.

I keep track of a lot of this stuff in Excel worksheets.

Here are my notes in that format for the two TLs I attacked using the (early) obsolete dispute. Santa's hat is only covering the name of each creditor. Both of them are household-name credit card issuers, though.

Did you do the online route or was everything postal mail?

I did dispute a well known JDB in August. It was online, EQ only. It was actually a mistake on my part (over complicated spreadsheet I created) so it was 6 months before it was scheduled to fall off. (Thought it was only 3 months out due to my error.)

The dispute was unsuccessful. It came back verified.

But then in September, it inexplicably disappeared from all 3 reports.

5 months early for EQ,

3 months early for TU

1 month early for EX

Strange coincidence?

Back when I had some baddies there was a point where I had sufficient credit and was motivated more to understand what impacts credit than actually fixing my credit. I had CAs and a lien and my plan was to watch them go away one at a time and remove (via withdrawal) the lien at different times on each CRA to see what the relative impact of a lien, CA and lien, or just lien was. I disputed one of two CAs on EX about three months before they would automatically fall off and left the other CRAs alone. EX promptly deleted that CA and the other one as well. A few days later TU and EQ also deleted all the CAs. So there I was with a lien and no way to experiment any further.

On to the lien. All in all it came off fairly easily. TU deleted upon online request. EQ verified from an online request but deleted promptly after a phone call and faxed withdrawal. EX verified an online request then verified a written request. At that point I got annoyed and mailed a point by point cover letter with numbered, included documents and a specific request for their information supplier contact should they once again verify the lien. They took their sweet time and notified me they couldn't use the provided information to delete but were sending it to their info supplier (LN, I believe). It was deleted a few weeks later.

Hello members,

I have 2 First Premier CC's that are scheduled to be obsolete by Nov '14 but wanted to test my luck and will mail out letters to the CRA's to delete them. In addition to the CC's, I have a repo only reporting on my TU and EX that should be removed by June of 14 that I am also requesting the CRA's to delete. Does any one of you have letters you sent to the CRA's for obsolete items?

Just last week I sent all three CRA's a dispute letter for obsolete removals, but JUST realized it is NOT RECOMMENDED to send it RETURN RECEIPT. Has any one had obsoletes removed when sent CMRR?

I don't see how it could possibly matter as to the outcome of your dispute if you requested a return receipt.

I don't think the kitty who is in charge of running the letter-opening machine will tell the kitty who's in charge of operating the scanner that the kitty who signed for your envelope is pissed.

MEOW.

I kept my obsolete disputes simple, remember you are asking them to delete early and they don't have to. No need to send these rgistered either.

Would you please delete the following account. According to my records this account is too old to be reporting (obsolete).

it has also been said that you shouldn't use fancy words like "obsolete" because they don't know what that means. I am going to post my letter.

Yes, that's the type of syntax I used in my online disputes, all of which were successful.

I plan on disputing these online since I can't see the value of creating a paper trail in this case.

I want to dispute 1 on TU right now but I can't seem to figure out how to dispute online with them. I recently sent a snail mail dispute that just completed about a week ago. I can get online but it will only let me view my dispute results and a PDF of my current report. There are no links to dispute items.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

In January, I'm going to start disputing EQ and hope they transfer to EX. I'm waiting for a snail mail dispute to complete so I don't want to add anything now. And I'm hoping that there's some psychological advantage to being in the same year. (I mean, right now, maybe they look at it and say to themselves... " this isn't obsolete till next year." But if I wait a couple of weeks, they look at it and say to themselves, "ya, this is just a few months out....")

I was thinking the same thing. I have a few for EX and EQ that are due to fall in April. Dec-April just seems so much further than Jan-Aprl

TU won't let you do a online dispute until it's been about 30 days from when they received you last dispute, even if it was mailed

So I disputed (or so I thought I disputed) addresses off the Big 4. TU removed all addresses except for my current. EQ has my current and another non-BK address. EX won't budge.

All bureaus froze. Microbilt, LexisNexis, SageStream, Chex, you name it.

Try to get full verification of the bankruptcy on my file, thinking the whole Trial Rule 1005 thing would help me (this rule makes only the last 4 of your social, full name and addy public-facing).

      No dice.

This was the response L/N fed me, including a few notes in RED.

Please critique, tell me I have no chance for removal, something....

Lovely Navient is posting 4, yes 4 charge-offs on my credit report.  I'm starting with Equifax.

Round 1:  Disputed because there was still a past due balance showing on the charged off accounts (all of them).  One Navient Account deleted, the rest were "verified."  Equifax "updated" the "date of last payment" to literally June 2020 ... on charged off accounts.   They still show a past due balance, even though the debts were sold to a collection agency.
Round 2:  Sent a method of verification letter to Equifax.  Equifax responded with a "We don't have a credit file for you" letter.  Stall tactic?
Round 3:  Sent a second method of verification request with copies of the "we don't have a credit file for you" letter, proof of identity, copies of their previously "verified" accounts/"investigation results" pointing out they reported payments on charged off accounts.  Interestingly, the "little boxes" that appear under the accounts which tell you if it's a timely payment, late, or a charge off still show a "late/charge off" for the months Equifax says they verified I made payments.  Result:  Investigation is PENDING.

I signed up for MyFico and apparently, Navient is reporting these charge offs/lates, FRESH, on a monthly basis - even after they sold the debt.  Is this legal?  How can I be late on a debt that doesn't exist anymore since they sold it off? I had a charge off before for a credit card a long time ago and once it was charged off and sold (Navient sold the debt as well) it wasn't reported every.dang.month.  Is this legal or some sort of reporting violation?

Am I doing this correctly?  Should I do a 609 and demand that they show me a copy of my MPN?  TIA!!!

Trying to help a friend and not sure what to do. They were just served with paperwork from the Courts in Osceola County, Fl. It was filed by Raush Sturm on behalf of Sears for some appliances purchased almost 5 years ago. The account was interest free and when it came time to make the final payment it was offered to Sears to split the final payment within 7 days of each other to clear the account. They refused and final payment was not made. In the documents they included only 1 statement which shows a balance now due of $9027.70 as of 1/9/2019.  Currently she has 10 days to answer the court complaint and I have no idea what we need to document or request. The amount is beyond ridiculous and she is currently a full time student with an unemployed spouse. Is there a way to request validation of the debt with all statement copies and proof it was purchased individually and not a bundle purchase (meaning they have no documents to prove they rightfully own?)

Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated. I have been reading on your boards about them being in the Hall of Fame for bad collectors.

      Thanks !

Long story short, have an old judgement, that while it isn't showing on my credit reports, shows up as public record when the mortgage company pulled my credit.  I have to get it paid/settled/removed in order for them to approve my mortgage loan.  How can I best protect my assets while I try and settle with them?  So far I have been able to fly under their radar as I am self employed, have a different bank account and don't have any auto loans.  I know since the judgement they have tried to get information in court from companies I have done contract work for, so I know they are diligently trying to garnish wages from me.  How can I protect my bank account while I am in contact with them to settle the judgement and get it taken care of?
