So Im preparing for my spree and just want to know what everyones opinion is on my current inq status!

TU- 6 EXP-18 EQ-5

But, after this month (Dec 28) my inqs from my car excursion will be rolling off

TU-3 EXP-3 EQ-3

Reason I would do it sooner is Im going to finish paying for my ladys ring and want those points, because Im proposing in January in HAWAII!!

Currently TU-708 EXP-678 EQ-643

Please give me some advice!

The credit pull has been incredibly influential, and thats one reason why I did post this question because I've noticed what people tend to do is just recon after the decline and explain afterwards. Should I wait till January to complete my spree or is the day after the 2 year mark put me in the clear? Reason I ask is freescore shows my an INQ from 11/08/11 when it was updated on 12/25/13?? Just looking for clarification, Thank You gdale6!

Experian is the only 1 of the big 3 that doesnt delete on the day of 2 yr mark, they do it the first weekend of the following month.

Adding: Since time is of the essence here you could try an obsolete letter to them for all those that are going to fall off 1 week prior to the date of the 2 yr mark, this has worked for me in the past.

Thats good to know, do you know if there is any CC that pulls TU most the time? If I call in can I ask them to pull TU specifically? Just going to rework my strategy, because I was hoping to have done it 1/2/14 but my last INQ rolls off 12/28/13 which puts it pretty close to me purchasing her ring on 1/08/14 and then we leave for a week hmmm any suggs?

If you like to travel, The Barclay World M/C Arrival card Only pulls TU and with the offer in this link you get 40,000 bonus points by make $1,000 of purchases in the first 3 months (enough for $400 off your next travel plans) + earn 2% on every purchase + 0% on purchase for the 1st 12 months + Annual Fee Waived for 1st year.

Here is the link: http://www.barclaycardarrival.com

Just a side note: If you get this card, be cautious opening a bunch of new accounts afterwards. I have heard stories of some people getting Barclay CC and they continue to load up on a bunch of new accounts getting a CLD or AC with Barclays. I would have at least a 6 month cooling off period before applying for more cards after getting the above card.

+ Conrats on your pre-engagement :)

Freeze your EX file and start applying :)

Barclays usually pulls TU.

Citi will pull EQ and/or TU if EX is frozen. Chase may do the same (they did for me).

Between those big ones, you should have plenty of opportunities to earn sign up bonuses.

Thank You Creditmmax! Anyway you have the recon number just in case?? Should I wait till the 29th till my inqs update and it reflects my current util of 4% instead of the current 22%?

Your welcome.

Personally I would think that your odds will dramatically increase with the lower utilization reporting and less inquiries. Just in-case you get an online decline, you can always call 866-408-4064 (Credit Analyst) for Barclay. If it helps calm the nerves, back in Jan 2013 I was declined for Barclay Priceline Card online (had about 5 inqs and 12% util at the time), and I called to recon and they approved me for $5k instantly after a few questions.

Since then, I got a CLI from $5k ----> $7.5k in September on the Priceline Card. Then about 2 months later in November, I applied for another card for the 35k bonus miles with Barclay US Airways World Premiere CC and was instantly approved for $7.5k online (had 1 inq showing, and about 5% util for the instant approval).

Hopefully the above inq/util stats on my "instant decline" (approved with recon), and my stats for "instant approval" (with no recon necessary) will help guide you in the right direction.

Which points are these?

Remember that rewards cards are generally a bad idea if you don't PIF every month (which you should ALWAYS do on every card anyway). The interest rate is generally higher on rewards cards to help defray the cost of the issuer purchasing the miles/points.

On an unrelated note, freeze Experian now. You should actively manage which inquiries you allow to land on your Experian report. While there is no law requiring you to stay married for two years, you WILL be stuck with those inquiries for that long no matter what.

The points bonus that Barclay has going on for their card is going to be helpful for flights in the future, but yes I absolutely will be PIF this purchase, I'm not letting 4k hang on my card PLUS I will be PIF everything before bootcamp, even the remainder of my car loan!! Thank you cv91915 I'm going to freeze my experian right away!

Thank you creditmmax! I'm going to wait till the end of the month to apply going to utilize your advice and have that number ready if declined and Ill wait 6 months till I open up anything else which will be the same time as me getting out of training! So Stoked!

That's when I'll actually be purchasing a new car, nothing crazy under 20000 buy something newer

Before you go on an app spree, you need to optimize your scores. Get your utilization down to 1-2% with only ONE card showing a balance. Having 2-3 inquiries on your report is fine.

If you freeze EX (which I think you should), certain banks will insist on pulling EQ and/or TU so you need to unfreeze EQ.

Some good sign up bonuses. Make sure you find the right links.

Chase Sapphire Preferred 50K points after 3K spend in 3 months. Worth at least $500 cash or more if you use it for travel. $95 annual fee.

Citi Hilton Honors Reserve 2 free nights after 2.5K spending in 4 months. That's worth $1000-1500 if you like to stay in expensive resorts. $95 AF.

Chase IHG 80K points after 1K spend (equivalent for 2 nights at most hotels in the chain). 1 free night after each year. $49 AF waived first year.

Barclays US Air 35K miles after first spend. $89 AF waived first year.

Citi AAdvantage VISA 50K miles after 3K spend in 3 months. $85 AF.

Is it really that important to worry about inquiries that are over a year old?

I have been declined for this reason with less than OP has, some creditors just dont like that many on file even if they are 23 months old. Of course its always YMMV, you are more apt to get away with it if you have a long history and a good thick file.

Chugs102 Thank you! Just paid off one of my cards and left 1% on the other card , now it's just waiting till those inqs roll off, How does everyone like the Barclay card in comparison to others out there, I've heard the sapphire preferred is amazing from my buddies but I don't think I'm at that level yet unfortunately :/

Without reading the thread, freeze EX. The only major creditor I know of that won't approve without EX is Amex. Everyone else will just go ahead and pull someone else. If not, they will decline you and send you a letter with the number for an analyst that will pull a different CRA.

I do want an AMEX in the portfolio at some point and time but I just have to wait for that one, do you wait till you get your decline letter before you recon?

If you get a decline & you know the recon line for the particular creditor you can call them immediately and attempt, do not have to wait for the letter. If you get the 7-10 day message can also call the recon immediately and clear up any questions.
