The deal has been approved: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/report-american-airlines-us-airways-162924491.html

Get your Barclays US Air card for the signup bonus, before it's gone forever. https://www.barclaycardus.com/apply/Landing.action?campaignId=1894&cellNumber=10&prodidreq=CCMWC56744&referrerid=PTRBABCUS

There may still be 35,000- or 40,000-miles signup bonuses out there.

Citi will be the issuer for the combined airline...

Whoa. I just got my 2nd Barclays US Air card last week. Hmmm gotta see if I can close the first and churn :D

I should do the same thing.

1) Transfer $15,000 limit from US Air card to Barclays Rewards MC for combined $22,500 limit.

2) Close US Air card.

3) Apply for a new US Air card.

Is that the sequence?

I kept the first US Air card open. I now have 2 of them. I will wait another couple weeks, close the first one, wait another 2-3 weeks and re-apply.

I have the Barclay US Airways MasterCard since 2006 (who is expected to take over this card, or is it going to be changed to Barclay's Rewards MC?)

I also have a Citi AAdvantage Card (just opened this one last month, got the bonus miles) what will happen to this card?

Does anybody know if you have US airways miles & AAdvantage American Airlines miles will they merge together? or do you loose your miles?

Thanks for any info.

The two mileage programs are expected to merge.

One perspective (under the header "Losers"):

US Airways Credit Cardholders: In June, American agreed to have Citibank as their credit card issuer going forward. Subsequently, Barclaycard, the current issuer of US Airways’ credit card, will have to eventually stop offering it, and probably convert existing US Airways Mastercard holders into Arrival cardholders. The benefits of the US Airways credit card add up to a lot including 5,000-mile discounts on award flights, 10,000 Preferred Qualifying Miles after $25,000 spent each calendar year, waived award processing fees, two roundtrip companion tickets annually, $75 Club membership discount voucher and more. The current best offer on theUS Airways Mastercard is 35,000 miles after first purchase, $89 annual fee waived the first year, 10,000 miles at account anniversary.

Yes I like the current benefits of the US Airways Credit Card issued by Barclay's - especially the two annual roundtrip companion tickets. It would be nice if they would grandfather these benefits into the new program for existing card holders. Hopefully we will get our new Annual Companion Vouchers before the old card is terminated or transferred over to another Barclay card

I had the same thought about the companion passes... And then I looked at them... Mine expire on 12/31/13. I tried to use them a couple of times, but even with one of the tickets at $99, there were much less expensive options available (which also happened to have better schedules).
