Hi.

I had a tax lien recorded against me. And I paid it off the same day I was notified of the lien. My question, how long until this hits my credit report?

The bigger question us, is it possible that I could get the right IRS forms in (that remove paid liens from public record) before the credit bureaus even pick it up? I believe I have a handle on how to do this. Fairly simple, actually. Just wondering if I can do it so swiftly that it never pops up on my reports. Do tax liens show up immediately? Within 30 days? Months? Weeks? Days? Anyone have personal experience with the reporting timeline?

Please, help. This was simply an error I made. And the ramifications are huge for me, personally. So I'm stressing out pretty good.

Thank you.

Tax liens are public records. They will show up after the IRS files the record which is usually close to the day you are notified. They will also automatically file a lien release, sometimes these are combined and the release is automatic after 30 days. Both are just as bad for FICO scores.

Tax liens are not reported to CRAs at the same time. They are reported when a third party hired to scour PRs reports the information to the CRAs. When they do this likely varies with the county and habits of these third parties.

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of anyway to preempt the reporting. Get your withdrawal notice processed so it's ready to go as soon as possible.

EtoA: Liens, releases and withdrawals are all public records. Withdrawals are notifications to ignore the existing lien and release. They don't actually remove the public records but should remove the reporting by third parties of the public records. For instance I can go online and pull my doc numbers for a lien, release, and withdrawal with a simple county search so they don't remove the actual records.
