Hi.

I am planning on applying for Blue Cash Everyday, but wanted to know what others' experience has been with regard to initially approved credit limits. Additionally, is there a difference with initial CLs depending on whether I apply for BCE or BCP? If I could avoid it, I'd prefer the no-annual-fee BCE, over the BCP. But if BCP offers a much better starting CL, then I might reconsider.

My latest credit score (pulled when applying for apartment several months ago) was somewhere around 780. Great, clean credit history. Currently have 2 BofA cards: (1) 17,000 CL with 30% utilization, and (2) 10,000 CL with less than 10% utilization. Also have MileagePlus Explorer Visa Signature with 11,000 CL and 30% utilization. Annual income around 100K.

Not really worried about being approved, but about the CL that will be offered. Does AmEx offer starting CLs in the 10K+ range anymore? Or am I likely to get a lower CL to start with, and then have to get a CLI after 61 days? And is there a difference in starting CLs between the BCE and BCP? If so, how much??

Thanks in advance for any help! :-)

My DW applied for the BCE last year and was given a limit of $13.1k. This was on the low end of her other limits (she has cards up to $36k). As you mentioned you do have the 61 day option. I don't think that getting the BCP vs. BCE will make a difference in your limit, I would apply for the card that best meets your needs.

This is the age-old dilemma for some people about dating someone hot, vs. someone with shared interests. Most people can't get both. Some are lucky to get one. Pick the one that matters most to you.

LOL looks usually fade and then you're left with someone that you have no interest in.

Anyway, my mom applied for it and got approved for 2000. She didn't have many cards back then, but they were all above 10,000. I applied and was approved for 10,000 with the highest I had being 2380. In that example it seems that they will give a high limit when other limits are low and a low limit when others are high.

Thanks for the quick responses.

It seems weird that they would give you a lower CL if you already have high CLs, and vice versa. Thought it would be the opposite: high CLs beget high CL. I guess you learn something new every day ...

I'd rather have both (and do).

  • 2 weeks later...

Figured I would post an update.

I was initially planning on waiting until the end of the month. But then changed my mind and pulled the trigger on Wednesday. Instant approval. Waited until the next day and called -- $20,000 CL! :yahoo: Definitely happy with the application.

On top of that, I used the recommendation I saw on CB and went through creditcards.com's "card match." Was able to use their link to apply for the BCP with a $250 starting bonus!!

Thanks. Now the only thing that can make it even better is if I get it D*.

I think my parents have AmEx from at least 2001. Anyone know if it will work if they add me as AU after I already opened my own account? If not, oh well.
