Looks like you can join if you live/work/worship in Washington or Oregon. You're also eligible to join if you have "an immediate family member that lives in Oregon."

Also looks like just having the checking account provides eligibility for the EQ FICO.

I'm going to guess that since they give a free EQ FICO, they use EQ to join. I checked the pulls DB and didn't see any entries.

Unitus is my primary B&M bank (along with OnPoint). I love them and the EQ score monthly isn't bad. I much prefer them over OnPoint in terms of lending leniency and customer service, their available locations are a bit more sparse - but they offer mobile check deposit and check/cash deposit via credit union ATMs.

For all my loan offerings through them they have also used EQ, yes.

Re: Free FICO..it appears you must have checking, estatements plus the qualifying loan product.

Thank you for clarifying! :good:

Hooray! I just got declined (Denied!!!) for a DCU checking. This is despite never having had a bad traditional banking relationship, never being on Chex, etc. I have read DCU is very peculiar about verifying new checking applicants, and I suppose that my denial was due to opening a few checking accounts in the last couple of years to take advantage of Bank and Credit Union promotions (free $100 here, free $75 there).

Unitus... I live near a local branch. Thanks Matti!

Let us know how it goes!

Let us know how it goes!

I just got off the phone with them, they confirmed what Trevor posted about needing to meet 3 criteria for the free FICO (checking, e-statements, and an active loan product).

The rep I talked to said they generally hard pull all three reports when applying for a new credit product (Visa, auto, etc.) but that covers as many loan apps as needed within 30 days. So is three pulls worth a free FICO? probably, yes!!

Later this week I will go and open an account and see what happens.

I'd be putting a freeze on whatever I didn't want them to pull. They lose points in my book for pulling all three. Totally unnecessary! lol

Are you sure that's why you were denied by DCU?

Nope. The above is just my best guess.

I've never been on CHEX, I've never defaulted on a bank account. DCU refused to tell me why they denied me both on the phone and in the letter. The letter states specifically "Please note that for security reasons we are unable to disclose what factors may have contributed to the denial." My application was online and I provided a valid CC to pay for the membership (to qualify me) as well as to make minimum deposits into a checking and savings account. The card was successfully authorized, so no problem there.

Next I got an email asking for pieces of ID. I submitted scanned copies of my driver's license, SS card, and two recent utility bills matching my address. DCU replied in two days and asked for the back side of my DL for the signature. I quickly scanned that in and emailed it to them. Four days later I received the denial letter.

I've done some searching of other people who have been denied (declined) a DCU checking account and there some interesting results. Many people with excellent credit and no derogatory checking account histories have been denied. So my best guess is that DCU is picky. And because I have opened two CU accounts and one bank account in the last 15 months, I might seem like a risk to them. I dunno. It is surprising.

If you or anyone else has a better theory, I'd love to hear it.
