The lone collection I am fighting is with Cavalry, for an old GECRB/Old Navy account.

I sent a goodwill letter to GECRB in June, explaining the terrible financial hardship I experienced in 2009, and begging that they simply delete the trade-line.

Of course, as they charged-off the $200 or so dollars, I did not expect them to be too generous with their goodwill, but at the cost of a stamp, worth a shot. Especially since I had paid a GECRB/HHGregg from the same time in full. So while they were not made whole, they got most of the money they were owed, maybe 90%.

Today, I received a letter that they were unable to locate my account based on the information I provided (name, address, partial acct# from credit report).

They are asking for:

Name on account, phone, current and previous addresses, DOB, last 4 of SS#, details on what I would like amended.

I would love to provide this and maybe get some goodwill. But at the same time, Cavalry has failed to verify, and I do not know if the OC and the CA share info.

Do you think this is a legitimate attempt to locate my account information to be able to at least consider some goodwill, meaning I am just being very paranoid, or would providing all this information be providing written documentation of what I owe and what Cavalry has been unable to verify?

I wouldn't sent them anything.. I would use that information and send it to Calvary cause there is NO WAY they can validate it if GECRB/ON can't even validate it.

I did send to Cavalry, along with a list of FDCPA violations and a list of threats of what actions I was going to take. Not sure which of the documents got the job done, but they sent me a letter they were permanently ceasing all collection activities and removed the collection from all three CRAs.

Don't waste your time getting a GEMB/old navy removed. I know 3 people who have tried including myself and they are on the "not legal" bandwagon. I'd spend my time, money, and effort elsewhere.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...

However if you do try (which I would for the heck of it) Congrats !

Yes, I already got turned down for goodwill back in October. But this new opportunity came up when I was battling Cavalry. Will take one shot and then walk away. It is 5 years old and $200, so I doubt it is hurting my score much either way.

Post #4 says it was removed from all three, so am confused by this reply? In any case, shout out to Hayday for the apparently sage advise.
