So using your credit line to the max is a risk for them, what if PIF? Illogical.

It appears according to the graph in the Part II of the case study that at about 28-33% Utilization is the best zone for CLI with Barclay, and 78-92% is the more likelihood of a CLD. Very interesting indeed....

Maybe somebody here can run an average Utilization in the 28-33% range consistently for 6 months and see if they get an Auto CLI? Any Ginny-pigs out there?

Check out this pre-screening "soft-pull" for the Barclay Card Ring 8% card? I believe that they will soft TU?

Good find Creditmax! :good: I wish they would do this with some of their more attractive cards.

I would also love to know whether running the card up to 30% just once would count, or if one would need to show a pattern.

And, is the best tactic to run up balance -> PIF -> request CLI, or run up balance -> request CLI -> PIF? We need a lot of GPs.

I'm really tempted to be the Guinea pig on this, mainly because I've never gotten a decent CLI on either of my Barclays cards.

My US Air card only has a $5,000 limit, so hitting 30% consistently would be pretty easy.

Let me stew a little on this. I don't know the fate of this account past the completion of the US Air/AA merger, which is supposed to close this quarter.

I am NOT willing to try this with my Barclays Rewards MC because it has a higher limit (but still only $7,500) and s#!tty rewards.

Raising my glass for a toast of "good luck" on your test journey. Please keep us posted (according to the chart on Page 2 of the report you should be fairly safe at 20-30% Util). I wouldn't go any higher than that. One thing to check on is that I have seen people get CLIs in 6 month intervals. A side note, that you may want this to post on your 6th month statement (or count your semi-anniversary date from when the account was opened) and see if that works for that statement?

I will say this about their methodology. When they first acquired the Sallie Mae card, I had asked them to combine the limits with my other Barclay card, and they wouldn't do it. Fast forward about 9 months, and now I have a 0% BT sitting on one card, with utilization around 40%. I asked again for the combination, and they did it without a problem. Right now I am around 40% utilization, I will keep you posted if I get any CLIs.

I'm in for the experiment!

I got this card in March, so I'm just a few months short of six.

Limit is $5,000, so I will try to push $1,000 and $1,500 a month through this card through the September statement, and then request a CLI.

Statement balances so far:

Apr: < $300

May: < $50

June: Small credit balance

I have a one-off $500ish charge to make today, and I will put it on my US Air card to kick this off!

Great timing for the 6 month statement. Please keep us posted :P

That was a good article, I had always suspected the CLD however I don't really remember getting many auto increases. I try very hard not to carry balances unless its a 0% offer. But even them it doesn't sound like a good idea unless you have the available credit to limit your utilization.

Damn, that statement closed fast! I was able to get my July statement balance to just over $1,000 before it closed, so we're on target. Next month I'll make sure I charge about $1,500 on it.

I thought I had a few more days, but apparently I just need some training on how to read a calendar. :o

I'll GP my RMC. Should we all try the same approach?

Yes, have 20-30% of your credit limit charged when your statement cuts for at least a few cycles and report back if/when you get an auto CLI.

I will post monthly results (statement balance and whether or not I got an auto CLI) in this thread. Since my card is fairly new I will also note the number of months I've had the card (either explicitly or implicitly).

At some point if none of us get an auto CLI we'll all decide to call the backdoor number and see if we can help that along. :yu:
