Hello,

To make a long story short, I have been with USAA since 1994, and when I was in IRAQ I decided to get a USAA CC. they gave me on with a 2,500 limit not to bad but wasn't great considering pretty good history and length of history. Well I have had their card for 3 years now and never once received a CLI.

So I called USAA to ask about a CLI but didn't want another hard inquiry on my report. So only a month ago I decided to diversify a bit from USAA and open a NFCU account. So yesterday I decided if I am going to use a inquiry I want to try a new line and have heard good things about NFCU.

I applied and within 30 seconds they approved me for a CC with them for 25,000 ! I was pretty shocked and finally felt like I got what I deserved. We have all made a few credit mistakes in past, but USAA is terrible with it and for the most part a proven track record of not coming through for their members with loans and CCs

thanks NFCU !

Congats! You must have high income to get such a generous limit...

Decent I guess, O-3E with 16 years.

Just good to know they took more into consideration, I can't understand why USAA does not. Will start to diversify a bit more with NFCU now, and my next auto loan for sure.

For auto loans check out PenFed, they really have the best rates.

I'm not surprised USAA denied your request without a hard inquiry. That is just the

way USAA does business. Something to consider is that USAA banking departments

generally don't speak to each other. So if your online profile still reads 0-1E

or whatever you oldest E grade is then USAA wont know you are an 0-3E.

Therefore your income may not support what you asked for. It sounds foolish but

I compare it to Military Finance and Deers, they don't know if you have more

kids or married/divorced you have to tell them. I'm also an 0-3E and went back

and forth with USAA on my credit card limit. I'm not at $24k which I'm very

happy with. Granted USAA isn't a liberal with their limits at NFCU however IMO there

are benefits to being exclusive. lol The longer I'm on CB the more I try and

steer away from NFCU. There is just something strange about how they give out astronomical

limits to recovering credit users.

Same here, I joined up with NFCU in South Korea (WL-12) and poof...25K limit. Came in handy when we made the move back to Cali. But I wonder if the 9.65% is a good rate? Best rate of all my cards, so I am not complaining but rather curious what you were getting on yours.

My Dad who passed away served in the Korean War, but when called NF they said that does not make me eligible. May one join a related organization ( if not been directly in service, nor any living family members in service currently ) ?

Family Members that are RETIRED OR ON ACTIVE DUTY including grandparents, parents, spouses, siblings, grandchildren, children (including adopted and stepchildren) and household members... there are no organization's that you can join through. you could try other CUs that allow membership by joining certain ORGs

I believe your Mom can get an account as a widow of a veteran and then you can get connected as well. If you have your Dad's DD-214 it seems like you could get in that way as well. Good luck.
