My Experian report has had multiple addresses, many incorrect, since I started looking at it years ago. This morning when disputing a CPA CO account (I paid Comcast directly but this neg seems stuck on EXP), I decided to dispute one of the incorrect addresses online. Just now, I got the email telling me the results of my investigation were online:

  • Address 1 (correct and tied to my file for decades including one active credit card, several closed auto & student loans) (DELETED)
  • Address 2 (incorrect version of Address 1 and tied to CPA account) (DELETED)
  • Address 3 (incorrect version of Address 1 and tied to open student loans- will need to correct that!) (DELETED)
  • Address 4 (correct and tied to three active credit card accounts)
  • Address 5 (incorrect version of Address 4 and not connected to any TL on report)
  • Address 6 (incorrect- seems to be a VERY garbled version of an address from 13 years ago; not tied to any TL on report) (DELETED)
  • Address 7 (correct address from 7 years ago; not tied to any TL on report)

I wanted EXP to delete the four incorrect addresses (2, 3, 5 & 6 above). Instead they deleted a mix of correct and incorrect addresses. I disputed Address 2 which seems to have cascaded away all the various versions of it, including Address 1 which was correct.

Do I need to call to add back the correct version or will it automatically reappear when my next student loan payment credits? I am concerned about the fate of my positive TL tied to that address (several closed student loans, three closed auto loans and one closed personal loan)- I need them both for the positive history and for the age of my accounts.

I would also like to get the two addresses (5&7) that are not tied to TL deleted.

Any advice?

I think the creditor can continue to report, so I don't think you need to worry about your student loans reporting, you will know soon enough anyway, just get your updated report in a month's time. I got an old address deleted from EXP and the result was that tradelines attached to it now have a 0 for the address identifier, they are still there, but are not tied to any address.

OK, I confess I felt rather paranoid about the possibility of 20+ years of credit history going poof so I called Experian. Once I got through to an agent, she was very nice about adding the correct address back in using the address identification number assigned to it on my printed report. I suspect she could see all three versions because she double checked the correct information with me, and we shared a laugh about how sometimes things get garbled in data entry. She also helped me add my cell phone number to my existing fraud alert; I travel a lot and so having only the home phone listed has proven annoying. The agent was friendly and helpful; she told me it could take 24 to 72 hours to correctly show up in the system, gave me her name, and told me to call back after 72 hours if I don't see the change online.

All in all a painless call, likely because I had the printed report right in front of me and was making an easy request to add back in an address mistakenly deleted only a couple of hours ago. May not have been necessary to call in, but I know otherwise the issue would have been weighing on me. I think I'll wait a while before asking Experian to delete the two remaining address that aren't tied to any TLs!
