Going to finally pull the trigger on applying for a Barclay card today. TU FICO is 675.

I have seen some different opinions on here of which is best to go for as a first card?

Seems like Apple through the store is a frequent suggestion. Is there any better chance of getting approved if I say I will likely send $500 vs I will likely spend $2500?

Any other one that would be a great first card with them?

Any that are really hard to get and I should avoid?

Yes, have looked in the database, but clearly there are a lot more approvals and denials than people are reporting.

Thanks!

With that score stick to:

Apple or The Rewards Mastercard for Good/Average credit (there will be two listed on the site)

You can also try Priceline or Travelocity. Go to the site and see which is best for your needs.

NFL is good too, but very limited - and they tend to lowball from what I see.

I would not say for the Apple card that I only want to spend 500. Make it more like 2K. That is what I did, and I got over 2K, and my score was lower than yours back in Jan.

OK, here is an issue.

I went to the link hrguy provided. Good thing I read the fine print.

Barclays has their website a little screwed up.

The link for the Good Credit Rewards MasterCard actually takes you to the application for the Excellent Credit Platinum Rewards MasterCard.

Maybe I will just apply through the Apple Store instead?

I think the Apple card is suggested a lot because it seems to be the easiest to get approved for. It was the first card I got from Barclays and this was with a worse score then yours and before I knew about creditboards. However, I do regret getting the Apple card since I have no use for it now as there are no rewards and just limited time 0% financing on apple offers.

So, I would suggest getting the card that best suits you because Barclay's does not like giving additinal cards until at least a year between new applications. Having said that, I have gotten new ones opened after 6 months when doing a recon with them.

They do have the friendliest underwriting team I have dealt with and go over your whole credit history. They do like seeing a positive history established and will go over any negatives on your report.

In my opinion, (especially since the priceline 2% is apparently only 1% now,) the Sallie Mae World Card is the best overall due to the 5% back on gas/groceries/books (aka Amazon). Or if not that card the regular rewards card mentioned above.

Even if denied, call underwriting at 1-866-928-3106.

My only issue with the Apple card is that the initial CL's are pretty low and I really have not seen anyone receive any significant CLI's over the course of having the card (I could be wrong of course) and in my opinion is treated more like a retail card when it comes to CL and CLI's (low and low).

When I applied for my first Barclays card I took a risk and went after a product that wasn't very popular - The Virgin America Card. I was also about a year post BK 7 discharge. They started me with $2500 I believe and now I am at $7000 (a year or so later).

I later added the Best Western and was approved for $1000 but I was told that I had reached the cap of what they would offer me in credit across the board.

Are you looking to establish a solid credit line that will grow overtime or are you looking for a card that you will actually use for its benefits.?

Just looking for something to get my foot in the door with Barclays. Figured I would go for an easy one, give it 6 months or so, and then try for something better. Of course, credit line growth and rewards are nice, but do not have a lot of bankcards so was just looking to pick some low-hanging fruit.

Got a response that I need to call to verify some information so they could not do an instant approval. Will call and see what happens.

Looks like you are on your way to getting approved. Good luck!

Went for the Barclay Apple Visa through the Apple Store. Chose the $1500-2000 range for expected purchases. Did not get instant. Said I need to call. Got notified of approval before I even had a chance to call.

Where did you go to and apply for the Barclays' Apple Visa. Do you the site info? Please advise. I have one cc with Sears FCU with a $2500 limit on it and my score with TU is 664 and would like to get another card especially one that has rewards with it so is this my card to apply for or should I try another one first? Thanks
