I'm surprised nobody has mentioned USAA or Navy Federal Credit Union.

Brother-in-law stiffed them both about 17 years ago and to this day they refuse to let him open any type of account except for a simple savings account. They will not give him online access for his savings account.

I called USAA yesterday because I ran across my BK7 papers from 1999 and had completely forgotten they were IIB. Rep told me I'm barred from ANY banking products whatsoever until I pony up the balance of $4200-ish. That explains a lot -- I THOUGHT I heard them laugh at me when I applied for an auto loan in 2012-Q1. Oddly enough, they never missed a beat in continuing to provide me with exceptional service on insurance products, but I suppose that's a totally different branch of the company. Heck, if THEY would play the D* game, I'd have to at least consider forking over the $ -- my "Member Since" date is 1991. Sorry...I'll quit fantasizing now.

Yeah, they are a tough nut to crack.

I wish they had D*.

I had a Chase CO for 5k about 7 years ago. I tried unsuccessfully to apply for a new Chase card back a couple of years ago. I was approved for a Chase Slate this week.

I had an Amex CO around the same time for 35k. I was declined for any Amex a couple of years ago, but I was able to get approved for an Amex corporate card with a 15k CL last year. I haven't tried for a personal card from them yet, so that may be different.

Have you been able to get a personal card from AmEx yet?

Interesting tidbit. I called the AmEx EO the other day and had a very pleasant conversation with a gentleman there. I specifically asked about the blacklist. He asked me some questions, reviewed my file and spoke to his supervisors.

He informed me that AmEx typically doesn't approve new accounts if your BK is still showing on CR. Additionally, they will decline if the amount involved is greater than $10K. He said that he's not advising or soliciting me to do so but I could consider paying to get their loss to under $10K. A business AmEx application is evaluated and treated separately from a personal AmEx and that I probably stand a better chance of getting a business card.

Do business AmEx show up on one's CR? If they do, I will try to get some for B*.

A quick Google search reveals that business Amex don't report on personal CR.

The inquiries for the business account get reported to personal CR. Also, the negative trade line will be reported if one defaults.

They do have memory of what is owed, I was unable to open a new checking account until I paid off the $4 owed on one that I had closed 12 yrs previous, I was never notified I owed the $4 nor was it reported to chex systems. If you are apping for a credit card they may hold it against you or may not, they cannot transfer the balance owed to your credit card as far as I know unless the original agreement signed for that old checking account says they have the right to do that, there are rights of setoff between accounts in the same institution. I would check their policy first.

NFCU > 20 years.

I applied for an account today. Was denied and subsequently informed that I had a charge off due to an outstanding balance on a credit card I had when I was 19 and stationed in Yokosuka Japan.

Fortunately, I can get back into NFCU's good graces once I pay the outstanding balance.

Will be visiting my local branch next week to get this settled.

Cap 1 picked me up while I had a C/O from HSBC still showing on accounts.

Its a skimpy little CL, but I didn't care about the $, I needed positive TL's again due to 0

accounts.

That was an auto approval online, so maybe that didn't check for old HSBC accounts (was almost

7 years falloff).

Yes I had a charge off and they will forgive if you pay off the full balance. Once you do that you can re-open checking and apply for a secured card.

That's what I did. Then apply for an un-secured card a few years later and you should get approved.
