Got my denial letter for an application on 4/1.

Reason for denial:

1) Delinquent post or present credit obligations with others (3- 6 1/2 year old CO's)

2) Excessive obligations in relation to credit limit

I had been away from home for several days and finally received my letter from Comenity. They said they declined me because they could not access EQ on April 9. The problem is that I removed my credit freeze on April 8 and they did perform a hard inquiry on April 9. It definitely was not locked since my two credit unions accessed the report on April 8 without any issue.

I made yet another call to Comenity. The first person I spoke with needed to transfer me, which was understandable. The second person repeatedly told me that they could not access the report. Each time, I told them that EQ would not show a hard inquiry unless one was actually performed. I requested to be transferred to someone who would either be able to reconsider the application or have the inquiry removed.

The supervisor who answered the call provided the same information. She obviously did not understand the nature and negative impact of a hard inquiry. Once she realized that I knew far more about pulling a credit report than she did, she placed me on an extended hold. At this point, she agreed to have the inquiry removed and send a letter confirming the removal.

I'm perfectly content to skip any further interest in this card. The level of knowledge and communication between departments at Comenity was striking. I'm posting this to make you aware of the poor level of professionalism I experienced during these contacts.

Received my card today (applied Apr 3, with immediate approval of $8500).

Called to activate and asked CSR if they could reconsider initial assigned CL. She said she could help me. I confirmed with her that there wouldn't be another credit pull.

She asked for annual income and desired CL. I asked for $12K. Approved in about 5 seconds. (no indication of a new pull in checking CRA's shortly after)

Hi hdporter: congrats thats nice limit for comenity.

My situation: I received the letter today which i thaught was denial letter, but it was not, letter said to call to confirm some information, and i did after that rep was able to tell me i was approved for 6k limit. Like hdporter i will try to ask for more when i activate the card. and i applied april 1st. and they pulled EQ on same day.

Ok i got my card last friday, I called and activated the card and asked for CLI from 6 to 10k, but was offered 7.2k, 1200 more is fine, took it.

for the gamblers in the crowd there is a new Total rewards Visa card that is coming out tomorrow.

http://www.totalrewards.com/creditcard/

I am curious if anyone has any Visa or Mastercards that are through Comenity. I have 2 cards in my wallet that are issued by them but they are just store cards. I was able to get them with little problems so I am curious if they will be more strict with the Visa logo on it.

I had received an email for this card. Has it been easy to come by?

I applied for this card back on 4/24/13. Got a letter a week later stating my request for a credit card was not approved because there is a security freeze on my Equifax report.

WTF, my Equifax is not frozen and the inquiry showed up immediately. I called and spoke to a CSR and tried to explain that my report was not frozen and her only reply was "please try again in 30 days". I asked her to look at my application and she said she couldn't She didn't even ask me for any identifying information, so she had no idea who she was speaking to.

I don't want to deal with a bank like this, I will B the inquiry and be done with it.

Maybe you'll have a pleasant surprise in store shortly down the road ...

Just returned home from a weekend trip and found a suspicious plain white business envelope with a Comenity return address. "Oh-oh", I thought ... I haven't even used the damned card yet; what's up?

Opened the letter and practically dropped in my tracks -- "Congratulations! Your Total; Rewards Visa Signature revolving line has been increased to $15,000."

same happened to me, well kinda, sorta. I asked on activation cli to 10k and they only gave me 7.2 from 6k, but last friday i logged in to pay my bill and it was showing 9.2k , i dont know whats going on with that. but no problem i'l take that.

another update, i did shoping cart trick with gander mountain and was approved for visa card, received the card and it was for exactly 10k. kool. but my wife got denied for it even thou she has better scores than me. the reason was too many inquiries, which were 2 of them. so far comenity is treating me good. i like them.

Wow they are treating both of you great. What do you think the requirements are? I have some CA's and 680-690's across the board..how did you get in with them?

I received a reply to my complaint letter to Cometity. They still did not approve me and what's funnier is the letter says "If you have further questions please contact me at the address listed below" Yet the letter is unsigned.

In their new letter they say my Equifax score was too low to be approved. Unfortunately I can't find the denial letter to see what they claim my score was then. I'm going to write them another letter once I find my Equifax score if I can find a free source.

Sounds like your next letter is going to be handed to you by a guy in a suit with a lot of jewelery

I sent a letter to Total Rewards regarding the poor service from Comenity. I got a reply on May 8. The verbatim response? "Thank you for your feedback on Comenity Bank.

I will forward you comments/concerns to Comenity and have someone contact you to resolve your issues."

I still haven't heard from Comenity.

I have a trip planned to Vegas in Oct, I was denied in April but thinking of reapplying in August when my reports should look a lot better, has anyone appliued more than once yet? I still think its odd they dont ask about income when you apply (Unless that has changed)

I have heard people getting pre approvals pop-ups now when they login to Total rewards, maybe its like the shopping cart trick

Yes, indeed, I got a pre-approval pop-up last week, I accepted it but unlike some of the other Comenity credit cards, I noticed a few days later that they did a hard pull on my Equifax report. It was approved for $4800 which I obviously intend to bump up at activation. I have 17 accounts reporting from Comenity so they have been very good to me since I began rebuilding a few years back.

What part of the site where you on when you got the pop up? What did the pop up look like or say?

I signed up for the regular, (non-credit), membership card and the pre- approval popped up for the credit card. It didn't show an amount and I declined the offer. They gave me an 8k Sports mans guide a few weeks back and I didn't want to push my luck. Also, will probably never been use it...APR of 24.99.

This sounds different than what was reported (that current members were getting offers upon logging into their TR account). If I understand correctly, you went to the TR website and signed up for a TR account as a new member, and that's the point at which you received the pop-up.

Has an existing TR member received the pop-up invitation upon logging into their online account?

That is correct. I signed up for a TR account and the preapproval pop-up occured afterwards.

Please refer to my previous post! I received a pre-approval pop-up last week upon logging into my TR account. I have had an account with them for nearly 3 months! It did not show an amount on the screen initially but as with all of the Comenity backed cards the pre-populate all of the fields and all you have to do is enter your last 4 digits of your SSN, full date of birth, agree to the terms, and accept the offer! However, I noticed a few days later that, unlike other Comenity credit cards, they did a hard pull on my Equifax report! Comenity generally does soft pulls on your Equifax for most of their retail cards.
