Yes, this past statement, there is the starting of the transition.. links to FAQ pages and whatnot.. and my payments done through my Orchard account are showing up on bank statement as Capital one not Orchard / HSBC.

I have always loved my Orchard card.. no A/F ..... no Foreign Transaction fee....and 2% cash back. The limit has never been huge ($4200 at present and I've had the card forever).. but it's always been one of my better rewards cards.

I am not looking forward to the transition to Crap 1 ..................... I have gotten ridden of all of their cards (except for this Orchard card) .................... and paid off my car loan early and swore I would never deal with them (personal reasons)..

it ticks me off to be stuck with another of their products.

Yes I want to close it................. especially if they don't put me into one of their better products.

I am not sure if this will be a good or bad transition for me. I liked that it was HSBC, so maybe I will be eligible for a different product from them, but on the other hand, I was declined by Cap1 so maybe this will be an "in"?

Is anyone aware if there is/will be a similar product that my wife would qualify for to help with repair?

Crap 1 has a lot of starter cards too and the FAQ made it sound like "nothing" would change.. but we'll see... do they have any cards similar to the Orchard product with 2% cash back? I don't think so.

Maybe they are working @ creating 'products' that are similar to what Orchard had.... it's very much a 'wait and see' with me. I have really great cards these days, far superior to anything that Crap one has that I might be eligible for. ps) I closed my card with them 2 years ago because they had a $59/AF and they would not waive it. So I threatened to cancel and they said ADIOS - and there was a parting of ways.

There IS a reason they are referred to as Crap One.

However, they have straightened out their act somewhat over the last couple of years,

so YMMV.

They aren't for me, but I have heard of some who like them.

I didn't have a problem with them until they flushed a long term relationship over a $59 annual fee.. ridiculous, right? However they were the only one I could find that would refinance my car for a rate less than what I was already paying... they gave me 3.98% when Chase was charging me 7.89%................tried a CU, they weren't interested............... and US Bank (have a longstanding relationship with them too ...............) just shy of 10%. They are not all bad..... I agree... but if they are going to move me into something inferior - I will leave.

They are referred to as 'Crap One' because it is an easy transposition for snarky commenters to make, not because their products are somehow inherently inferior. There are lots of far worse products on the market that don't get the sort of short shrift that Cap One gets. Taco Hell, Smell-A (LA), Bust-Buy, Burger Thing - all just silly and snarky ways of messing with a common brand.

Cap One has extended credit to millions of people with tarnished credit histories in a manner far less predatory than most of the other lenders working in that market; they gave me a $3000 credit limit when my score was in the mid 500's and they extended that at a 14% rate, which is lower than my Amex is now.

Exactly, folks can knockem, but they didn't charge me a $250 fee to give me a 300 CL back when my credit was in the dumpster. I never forget who helped me get back on my feet. Cap one has been very good to me over the years.

Capital One was good to get me started off, but I quickly outgrew that relationship. For a student card, I'd say that that Journey Student Rewards is definitely one of the better ones. The only one I'd really recommend over it is the Citi Forward for Students.

But when they wouldn't give me anything above a $750 CL when I had other creditors throwing limits at me over 10x that, it was time to say goodbye. I'm hoping they don't change the terms of my Household Bank card, but I won't be surprised if they do. I'll cut them off there (or maybe just sockdrawer), and put the Priceline Visa in my pocket.

Everyone loves them while they're handing out cards while other issuers treat us as lepers. Then after breaking out of credit jail we quickly forget from whence we came; then the bashing begins... I can't believe they won't do a product change to Venture on this card that I got with a 450 credit score ... or they won't drop the annual fee that I accepted when I opened the card :aggressive:

... or they won't raise your credit limit, but they will approve you for a third card ...

... or they structure due dates and transaction posting to maximize late fees ...

CrapOne is called CrapOne for a few very simply reasons. First is probably because back before they got hit with multiple million $ enforcement actions they were a predatory lender, but were sneaky in how they did it. The second is because, as SomeGuyInCA stated, the nickname is kind of cute and catchy. Let's face it, in one way or another every lender sucks to some degree. CapOne just makes it easy to make fun of them.

I don't see anyone bashing them, people are entitled to state their opinion here. You like them OK .. me not so much and I have my reasons. If you don't agree, that's fine... I never said they had to send me a venture card, all I said is that I better get a comparible quality card to my Orchard MC - another card that some folks call subprime, but I've never had a stitch of trouble with. I don't need another of their cards if it's going to come with annual fees or no rewards.............that's ALL I said. They will remain "crap 1" to me until otherwise proven that they really have improved.

Cactus I am speaking in a general sense; I wasn't talking directly to you, I really hadn't even read your prior post until now. I don't "like" them either but they have given me a chance more than once and that has helped me get in with other issuers.

Cap1 with their subprime offerings has helped the majority of people here with rebuilding their credit. I don't like them either but seeing the "cute" name constantly irks me a bit.

Sure, they helped a lot of people dig out of credit issues. They've even helped people who never had issues. And they've helped people get into credit problems, too -- just like many other card issuers.

There are people who absolutely hate USAA although I think they are God's gift to the banking world. If someone bad mouths USAA, I'm not going to get irked. I figure there are more important things to get irked over rather than whether someone dislikes a particular bank that I like.
