I don't think with an average credit score across all 3 bureaus of about 540, and a BOA charge off in the last 7 yrs that I can get a regular credit card. However if you guys want to chime in on it, pls do.....

Citi once had an amazing secured card (and may still). With a limit up to $20,000 and hooked to a CD type account that was earning nearly 5% interest, many people were signing up just to take advantage of the 5% interest. It also has the option to become unsecured. You may wish to research this to see if it's still available.

I've heard that it's still available, but you have to apply for it in branch. IIRC, it has a $29 AF.

I was approved for the CapOne. Declined for the BOA, Recon: Declined. Called 25 different CU's in my area to find the one that wouldn't pull a hard and got a secured through them.

The Citi Secured sounds like the best one yet! If anyone has any info on it, share! ;)

In reference to the Citi Secured... it may or may not be offered anymore. You have to apply in branch.

When it was actively offered... Deposits from $500-$5000, $29 AF, deposit is put into an 18-month CD which had an approximate 4% APY, after the 18 months as long as you had good history, you would graduate to a non-secured card and would usually be offered one of their other card offerings to convert into, like the Citi Dividend or AAdvantage cards.

I still have an Applied Bank card. They didn't pull a hard report (I don't recall seeing a soft anywhere, to be honest) but it does not report payment history to EQ. It's pricey for what you get.

Go with credit union secured cards if you belong to any.

Join a credit union that offers unsecuring...NFCU, Apple FCU...what state are you in?
