If a lender dings your report in error, is aware of it, and you only learn about it in the process of being rejected for a loan because of that ding, are there any consequences to the lender?

I feel as if somewhere in the FCRA there must be some guideline about a lender who realizes he dinged a credit report in error needing to notify the debtor or take some remedial action to correct it without waiting for the error to be discovered by the consumer.
