Does Barclays charge a FETF for Turks and Caicos purchases?

Any update on this from the OP?

We're going to Turks & Caicos in April. We have a couple 0% FETF cards but I'd like to know regardless.

In my estimation, there should not be a charge. It's a Foreign (currency) Exchange fee. TCI uses the USD, not a foreign currency.

I don't know about this particular instance, but I do use an inexpensive VOIP service based in Canada but they bill in US Dollars to my Citibank card. Citibank charges a foreign transaction fee every month for that. It only amounts to pennies, so I don't lose sleep over that..

I know my US Bank card had a funny clause attached to it that was in essence: "3% FETF if they charge in a foreign currency, 2% FETF if they are in a foreign country and charge in USD."

That said, if your card says it has a FETF at all, I'd imagine that you're going to get charged the fee if it's in a foreign currency or foreign country, regardless. I'd play it on the safe side and stick with a no FETF card, if you have one.

We have a few no-fetf cards, but I was considering using the new PRG card for the car rental there, etc, so I wanted to check-in with the OP. No big deal, I don't intend to risk it, we have a couple chase cards and even my wife's old Capital One "Cash Rewards for Beginners" card with 0% fetf.

Yeah, I was going to say Cap 1 or credit unions.. That's what I did when I had to travel heavily. Never paid one FETF fee, nor ATM fee. Chase is the worst - there's actually a chase card that doesn't charge? Not any chase card I've ever heard of..

There's gotta be half a dozen of them at least. The Chase Sapphire Preferred is the most prevalent one.
