I absolutely am going nuts with the waiting game. I apped for nrewards over the phone on Sunday the 2nd. So yesterday, I got a message that they wanted my tax returns, ss card and state id. I recently had my name changed to my married name so my DL still shows my maiden name although my social has my new name.

Today, I got a call. I was so nervous. Still am. The girl was very nice and told me that my photo id did not match. I explained as best I could and told her I could send her a copy of my marriage lisc. showing my old name and new name, etc. She checked with someone and said I could do that. So I did immediately and now I'm in the waiting game. I called in to make sure they had my docs and they did and the person told me to give them 24 hours.

I honestly can't concentrate on anything. I am checking my member login hourly. I really want to be apart of their family so bad. I've started rebuilding my credit over the past few months and this would be my first real card. I have the Cap 1 with a $300 limit.

They did a hard pull on EQ (675 FAKO 663 -FICO) and then another Hard on TU (656- fako).

Does anyone have any experience with sending in the docs. By calling and asking for the identification after sending in the other, does that mean the tax docs met their approval?

Waiting game... is so hard.

I'd say relax, I don't think they request that info if you're declined :D I bet when you log in tomorrow morning you'll see an approval. I know what you're going through, we did the same in August. Once we provided id and payroll stubs it was the next morning the approval message came through. Are you checking on the application status or just looking to see if you have a secured message? If you haven't already click account services, then check status of pending application. I can't recall for sure, but I think it took longer for the account to show up...so even though it was approved there was a 1-2 day delay before it was under my accounts. GL!

Hi guys and thanks for all your positive responses. Unfortunately, while I was waiting for my first post to get approved, I was declined. I have a chapter 13 from 4/2006 that was listed as one reason. One was inquiries. I had 5 on TU- 2 were from NFCU. I have 3 on Equifax- One from NFCU. Another reason was utilization. I had used my only revolving credit card to 76%. I had been using it and paying it off each month - but not realizing that when it reported, it was killing me. That just fell to 9% a few days ago. I have one collection from 2007 and that is it for the bads. I have some good revolving credit cards that were paid as agreed from years ago from Amex, Discover and a such. But regardless, they declined my application which shocked me because I see them approving people with much lower scores. Very disappointed to say the least.

I faxed in a letter the same night explaining that during the 2006 and 2007 time period, I was going through a divorce and that after that I just have not had credit and that I really wanted to rebuild my credit in a positive manner. I noted that I have read wonderful things about them and that I am not asking for a huge credit line. I explained the utilization and that it had been paid down to 9% for over a month but had just not showed up on the credit reports as of yet. I basically tried to explain anything they could possibly question. I have not heard anything. I faxed to this number (866) 3462921. I am now wondering if I should have sent it via the messaging system.

Has anyone done the recon with them and if so, how long did it take to get a response? If they decline your recon, do they notify you are leave you out in there wondering forever. Really hoping for something with them. They seem like such a great organization.

No, they will let you know. I had to recon for an auto loan and my NavChek when I first joined... I actually mailed them a letter. I didn't hear anything for over a week and then I sent a secured message asking what the deal was. They didn't respond to it but I got a call from the branch saying my auto check was ready to be picked up... I'm like that was fast lol. So, if you don't hear anything you can send a secured message to be like yo you gonna answer me or what? But usually if its still a decline they will let you know. When did you fax them?

Lots of people have done recon with them with good success.... lets hope yours is good too :)

And hey - if you filed for BK13 in April 2006 and was successfully discharged, this will be gone in a couple of months from all three CRA's. If you were dismissed, it will hang around for another few years. But you can pay that card down to a buck, let it report, and then apply again in a couple of months once the BK is off your reports.

Definately wait for the recon response. I actually had a letter typed up to fax, and the rep on the phone told me she would just get the reasons from me and get someone on the phone. I was approved. But for something more involved like yours, faxing a letter was great. Just be patient.

If they decline again, maybe you could see if they would allow you to do a secured card. That might help getting your foot in the door.

I faxed them the evening of the 7th - the same day that I saw the declined on their status site.

I've checked the nfcu member site for messages and no new messages. The place I saw the denial was on the application status page. It still shows as declined.

Today, I got a letter in the mail dated the 7th asking me to fax or message them in state id and social security card- which I already did from the first batch of things they asked for.

I picked up the phone like three times and called in but hung up before anyone answered. I was going to ask the status but didn't want to hear bad news twice. But I wanted to ask about the request for docs. I'm so confused. So I sent a secure message in with those docs and am again hoping for something good.

For anyone else that has done a recon, can you tell me how long it took to hear back from them? Thanks!

Tracy

Hang in there, the wait is worth it! But wow, tax docs... really?

Yeah really, Pulling an amex Pre AR huh?

I bet it has to do with the name issues. nothing to worry about. There not going to deny you for that. It's just a little extra work before they CAN approve or deny you.

I did a recon for my car loan, but I had to mail it to a different address, one on Follin Street. My recon took all of a full week. They used to deny me for everything! My bk is from 2006 also. Do you have other public records besides the BK?

No. that is my only public record - a chapter 13. It is scheduled to fall off Transunion 3/2013 but from what I am reading, possibly not off of Equifax for three more years. I did end up calling later yesterday to ask the status. The guy I talked to told me that he could see that I had filed an appeal but that the people that handle that had already left for the day. He said I could call back tomorrow. I won't call. I'll just wait and see if I hear anything. I was just happy to find out they had received my appeal letter.

No the chapter 13 was dismissed in 2006. I've never had an account with Navy. However, I called in today to check the status and they told me they would send me a letter. I knew that sounded like a denial. So disappointed. Oh well. Have to give up this mission with Navy for now. I just want to get the letter and really find out why they denied it and my appeal. Live and learn. :(

If it was dismissed in 2006, it should drop this year. Mine was also dismissed in 2006 and it says on the reports that will come off in May of this year. Hopefully it will and I won't have to write letters.

I'm sorry you didn't get it, but don't give up hope, if I've learned anything from dealing with them is that No is never their final answer (unless you owe them money). Pretty much everything they've denied me for, I was able to recon and get. Recon again once you get the letter! Come here with it and maybe we can help you shape your next appeal.

Not sure which is harder- getting told no over and over or giving up completely on getting in with them. I got the letter yesterday. It stated two reasons, unable to verify income and unable to verify employment. I am self employed with my husband. He has owned his business for 10 years and has tax returns for every year. I was added as his partner a few years ago. I sent them copies of our business and personal tax returns.

Anyway, I had given up and called in to get my fico score- not realizing until later that it was at the bottom of the letter. (642 TU- my worst report). I got this really nice guy on the phone. He didn't understand what I wanted when I said I wanted my score. He was as confused as I was about the letter- trying to figure out if it was regarding my original application or my appeal. I gave him the date and it was the same date that my original app was declined. I guess I jumped the gun and sent the appeal to fast ( same day) without knowing the reason. He was so nice and tried to figure it all out for me. He said they couldn't find me on the business tax return. I'm not on the first page but I am on the return (we've filed this was for 3 or 4 years). I noted to him that we moved recently and asked if it would help if I pulled up our business partnership filings from the state we live in and fax them in. He said he thought I should. I told him I didn't want to send things in on a closed application and not have them have a clue why - hoping he would make a note to the file. He said he couldn't find where the appeal had been denied.

Okay- this just gets more and more frustrating. I went to the mail after that point today and found a new letter from them stating that my appeal was denied. I guess I was stupid to appeal something without knowing the reasons but trying to cover them all in one letter and hoping I get a human at some point.

So I faxed in the docs showing partnership and also the front page of our business checking account and gave them the name of the branch managers that know us by name at our local bank. It's just so frustrating. I feel as if I am hanging on from a tattered thread to some hope. The very nice rep told me that sometimes if they can't find something, it stops everything right there (saying they couldn't find my name on the business tax return). I guess it's more complicated when you are self employed. What sucks is that they don't call you and say- hey, we can't verify your employment. Can you help us out before denying you? I would be faxing everything I could.

And the saga goes on - and I keep waiting for the denials with NFCU to get easier. First one stabbed me in the freaking heart because I was so hopeful!

Thank you cputrwz. I at least know at this point that I am giving it my best shot. Normally, I would never have thought to QUESTION the powers that be or ASK questions after getting a big slam dunk pie in your face denial. I keep picturing climbing this freaking credit mountain and taking a few steps up and feeling good- taking that risk of putting your foot on something rather shaky - but going for it because you've heard about all your friends making it there. Oops- knocked back down- wondering if you have it in you to ask questions - plead your case- knocked down again- geez. On the balancing rope... waiting again to know if I can cross over.

I have to hand it to this board- you give people the courage to ask questions and not give up. I will get there like so many of you have! Thanks so much.

P.S. Next step... fax pictures of my adorable golden retriever puppy begging... ;)

If you don't get approved I would really open up a secured nRewards with them! It is a great card and the rewards are decent. Like mentioned before if you do good with the secured card they will possibly unsecure at a year! I apped for the cashRewards 4 months post BK7 with 4 months a good history on the secured nRewards and was approved for $500, got it raised to $1k after sending a secured message. Good luck and don't give up! Once you do get in they will treat you awesome
