Getting prepared to go into semi retirement

Recommended Posts

:D I have decided to take an early retirement and do some part time work and get out of the heavy work load system. I have decided to start using my bucket list and see and enjoy the world. My husband is not taking an early retirement but I am so I can relax and enjoy life since I'd been so sick recently. Going to Africa to see the great migration. Taking up needlepoint and extensive photography classes. Life is too short to not enjoy. I lost my sister at a time when she should be enjoying life. I think of her everyday and whatever I do to enjoy life she will be a part of it. When I retire you will see more of me, your "Senior Resident" and I hope to share some of my adventures with you!

Hi coco

The trip to Africa and the photography classes sounds like a blast. I'm looking forward to seeing some of the pictures that you take.

I'm sorry you're not feeling well, I pray that you start feeling better soon.

Enjoy your life of leisure. :)

Congratulations on your upcoming retirement, Coco. I'm jealous, too, but happy for you. I think I'm still seven or eight years out from retirement. I look forward to hearing about your adventures!

This reminds me of a study I read about on aging and health. Some group did a study and they decided that a way to screen people to see how healthy they will be in old age and how long they will live is a simple little text. They took random sample of people between 50-80 and had them sit down on the floor and get back up without touching their hands or their knees on the floor. the ones who could do that would live a long healthy life. Anyone else here think they are crazy?

Don't try it - I did and now I have a big bruise on my ribs where I fell over to one side.

Congrats! My mom was planning on retiring at 50. The closer or got, the more she realized how bored she would be. That was...almost 5 years ago maybe? Personally I don't think she'll ever retire.

But I'll let everyone know when she does. QVC stock is sure to quadruple then.

Oh I missed your announcement! Sounds dreamy. Should we plan a CB retirement party for you?

Yeah Breeze, tell Nem to get ready to start a party after I file my commencements. I have two pensions and IRA. Not touching IRA right now, after my sister died and my husbands father had passed I went into a funk. I was sick a lot. I threw myself into my work and lost a lot of weight and ended up in the hospital with pneumonia 2 months ago. Feeling much better, but feel the need to unload some stress and enjoy my pre and golden years. :D

Congrats Coco! I'm right behind you...(although, have many more years to go.. :( )

Hey IG, if you have pension(s) and not worried about a few dollars here and there, you can swing it. I'm doing what my sister should have done following her heart attack at a young age. Life is too short not to enjoy. I had been thinking for sometime, saving, investing and planning!

Chi, I want you to get better sweetie, and enjoy life too. Africa has been my dream for about 1.5 years now. Just trying to figure between Masai Mara or Tanzania! I joined the AARP.and 55 senior club. I have to admit I am a year shy but it's good. There are many advantages too.

Good for you! Life should be lived. If you can retire early, I say go for it! I know I hope to...about 40 years from now lol!

You know for every year I do it early I lose a little, and pensions are taxable but I am having deductions taken. The little I lose is better than not living to enjoy any of my pensions.

Take me with youuuuuuuuu!!! Congrats!!!

:D tee you are welcome anytime to come with me. My only worry is getting enough deep woods off to combat the Mosquitos but I really want to see this before the poachers kill them all. I want to see the birds, enjoy the people, and Africa has some lovely flora as well.

Don't be jealous dear be happy for me! I earned it and quite frankly I'm sick of the rat race. I do plan to do casual work at the casino as they like my employment. I just hope I don't get bored. lol

Thank you my dear! Many people go into retirement and if they get bored they seek new venues.

Not gonna try that as I had that back surgery in 2007 Breeze. I think we all get or have some disorganization. I don't live in Better Homes and garden, but I do try to eliminate any clutter. Breeze another thing is I had gotten very stressed with the fall of the economy and your job becomes like an arena for dog eat dog. Enough for me, it's time to live without the constants.
