I believe you. I guess if you slam the card maybe you can get a higher CL. I've read here before that $4,800 is their max and was told by two underwriters the same so I had no reason to doubt that. Now I do...

Well, aren't you clever? tongue.gif

They gave me the whole CLI!! Now I wish I'd asked for more. haha. I just had no idea they'd bump me from $400 all the way to $5000!!!

I called this morning and asked for more. Why not, right?

They upped me to $10,000. I am just floored!

This is going to be such a boost in building my credit, as I'll be able to maintain a low utilization and show experience managing a large credit line. Yay!

Thank you OP for the direct phone number for GE Underwriters. I have 10 cards issued by them and would use the online requests for credit line increases until they took them away. I started using the phone requests with mixed results. I also was shocked to get some auto CLI's on my 3rd statement for my Dillard's AMex and Chevron/Texaco MC products.

A couple of months ago I wanted to upgrade my TJMaxx/Marshalls store card to the Mastercard version. I was told they did not offer upgrades and I would have to re-apply which was also the case with my Chevron/Texaco card. I applied and was approved for the new TJMaxx MC with only a $1200 credit line. It was the lowest out of all my GE cards and probably a result of upgrading or opening too many new different accounts in the last 2 years.

I went ahead and called the number posted on the first page of the thread and asked if they could help me with the TJMaxx MC since I did not notice anyone else mention while briefly reading different postings. The rep said she could help and only asked how much I wanted and read me the income disclosure then asked how much I made a year. She never mentioned pulling my credit but said she needed to place me on hold for a couple of minutes to review everything. She came back and said I was approved for the $5000 limit that I requested. I was very happy since the computer rarely gives me large increases and sometimes offers a counter amount.

I do not post much on the board but read it every day and even share the info with co-workers or friends if I find info that would also benefit them. Thanks to everyone who posted their own experience and to the encouragement to be go for much higher amounts than you would normally request. I am glad it worked and crongrats to others who also were able to get their requests approved.

Called today just to see if I could get any results. And was amazed! Thanks to the OP for this great info.

Walmart was 300 asked for 4000 approved 4000. Should have asked for 10k. Maybe next time.

JCP was 150 asked for 3000 approved 3000 (Almost closed this card but glad I didn't)

Old Navy was 100 asked for 1500 countered with 1000! (just have it for coupons anyway)

Amazon Store card 500 asked for 3000 approved 3000! (Great for no interest promotions!)

Here is the number I called. Each request was done on a separate phone call. All request were done the same day.

1-877-379-8173 for Walmart, JCP and Amazon

1-877-379-8170 for Old Navy

PrinceRomeo,

I would call the underwriters at 1-877-379-8173 and ask if they service Ashley accounts. If not they will provide you a number for them. Each representative was very friendly and I was not intimidated at all. I really didn't want to talk on the phone, but it was easy. Best of luck for you.

When you ask for an increase go large. They always counter offer.

FINALLY!!!! I was able to get a cli through the UW. After trying 4 times last month, I got an increase on the Walmart cc from 1200 to 9000. What might have worked in my favor was that its been 4 mths since last cli, inq 8 to 1, and util 33% to 26%. Tomorrow I'm gonna try my other accounts. Don't think I can sleep though.

Jcasti02,

Thanks for sharing your success story. I tried calling in yesterday and was shot down. I figure I'll give it till the current statement cuts and hope for a success like yours.

I have 3 questions:

1. How long have you had these accounts?

2. How strong are your scores?

3. Did these require hard inquiries?

Thanks for your help! I just got an Amazon card about a month ago and am trying to figure out when/if I should request a CLI. I requested one when I opened it, but they declined me.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just called to request a CLI on my Amazon account and they could not process the request due to a freeze on my TU. They told me to un-freeze and call back with the reference number that they gave me.

Sounds like they want to do a hard pull - - - I always thought your current creditors could pull a soft even with the freeze on there...

If it was definitely a soft, I would gladly unfreeze....

Well, the fantastic phone number still works! Called this morning, and got Walmart increased. Called this afternoon and got JCPenney.

WM: $1000 -->$2500, and JC: $200 --> $1000. (I know, I didn't shoot for the stars, but I didn't want to push my luck, either :blush2: ) Walmart FICO: 636, and I had small balances on both cards.

Thanks Kayvebear, for being such a credit nerd! :D

I had this same issue. I removed the freeze on my TU report and called back with the same request. It was approved (to $10K). Updated USAA CCP and I did not see a hard pull. Will update this post if I see one from them in the next few days.

I was shot down earlier this evening as well for amazon. Called and said auto system offered me 250 increase to get to 950. With holidays coming up, I was looking for 3000 to get some electronics. Put on hold, wait 5 minutes, rep comes back and apologizes for the delay and says it will be a few more minutes...back on hold for another 5. Comes back and tells me to protect my identity, she needs to verify some info. Asks me a few questions about items on my credit report. I answer them all and she tells me, I'm sorry, at this time we can't grant a larger increase. You will get a letter in 7-10 days explaining the reasons. Really?!? If you knew I was getting the big N-O, why all the extra questions? Oh well, can't win them all.

I think its best to call for the increase before doing the auto response. Others with better scores and income than me probably don't have to worry about doing that IMHO.

That's what I did with Walmart. It was the day after my 4th statement cut and I wanted to see if I would get denied by the UW again. But since I was due for a cli, I thought that I would at least get a counter. To my amazement I wasnt and got the huge limit.

I've got Paypal coming up on 3rd months after last cli. I'm gonna call before an auto increase happens on my 4th month again.
