its too bad GECRB seems to cap a lot of their cards at 10k. these soft pull underwriters are sexy

Though $10k is the most stated max for Lowe's for example, I have seen some cases where its higher. I plan to make a large payment on mine later this week, and then see if I can get them to $12.5k

Also Bob Wang has said his Sam's Discover card is something like $20k ... so ...there are some chances to soar.

I don’t know how you guys do it but it didn’t work for me. I applied for a CC from Wal-Mart this morning, received the message that I would receive a decision on the mail in 7-10 days. I called the number, talked to UW just to confirm that my application was denied and that there was nothing he could do because the system had “locked” my application and that he couldn’t overwrite it. UW suggested to wait until decision arrives in mail, then apply directly in store, if app is denied again, to call them while in the store to see if they can overwrite the decision. I was under the impression that since I don’t have any credit I would be approved for the Wal-Mart easily but I guess is not that easy. What do you guys think? He also mentioned that it would be a hard-pull and not a soft pull.

Jesuse,

if you don't have ANY credit you are starting from a very different spot. We would recommend for you to join a local credit union and see if they offer any secured credit cards that become unsecured after a period of 6 months.

There are a lot of threads on this forum about how to build credit from scratch.

Hi Kayvebear,

I understand what you are saying but I do have some credit, on Sep 11 I applied for a CC with my CU and I was approved for a 500 unsecured card, last month my CL was increased to $2000. I also have a car loan with the same CU since Nov 11. I found out that the CU only reports to Equifax but I was hoping that when I explained my situation to the UW they would approve it; I guess it doesn't work that way. I want to have a score of 700 across the board by next Feb but I don't see that happening anymore.

My Lowes is at 12,500 so go for it! I'll probably try going for more in a month or two.

If your CU only reports to Equifax, then it appears like you have no credit to any lender that uses TU or EX (GECRB uses TU). I highly recommend opening some lines of credit that report to all 3 bureaus. Find more credit unions that pull Equifax for approval and apply with them since you already have a building EQ file

Inspired by this thread, I called to get increases on my GEMB cards. Here are my results:

Walmart: increased from $1800 to $6k

Old navy: increased from $600 to $1400 ( rep said this is the max for the store card. Could that mean a visa upgrade is coming soon?)

Amazon store card: increased from $950 to $3k

Lowes: increased from $3k to $10k

Glad I found this thread. Can anyone shed some light on the old navy store card. Is there really a $1400 cap on this card, or was the GEMB rep giving me lip service to not ask for more?

Mine has been @ 3600 for awhile, which is about 3600 higher than I need.

I haven't had much luck either. I opened a few secured credit cards several months ago with $2,000 to $3,000 per card. Hoping to get my $900 Amazon limit to match my other limits, I called in, and the lady said there's nothing she can do. It has to stay at $900.

Should I try for my walmart card too? I got a CLI yesterday of $7500 on my Amazon card and I received a CLI on my Walmart card 2 weeks ago through the automated system.

You can sure try... I had recent auto increases too (less than 2 weeks old) and was able still get more via this method.

Congrats! You got some good action there. I have been told that $1400 is the limit for that card as well. For Old Navy, Gap, and Banana Republic, they say $1400 is the max on the store card, and $4800 is the max on the Visa versions.

Hmmm, I'm gonna have to try my Chevron (non-visa) card in the morning. I started at $300 in 2008, used it a few times with the best intentions to PIF every month and grow the line, but accidentally didn't pay in time (missed payment by a couple days) and went over limit, got CLD'd to $100. Was not a 30 day, more like a 5 day. Never used it again (since about late 2008 or early 2009).

Anyone know if this is a good number for them? I'll just call anyway and update this thread, unless someone knows for certain. All I saw on their website was -

"The Chevron and/or Texaco Visa and Personal Credit Cards are issued by GE Capital Retail Bank"

So I'm hoping it'll work. Stay tuned
