What is ARS? I am currently in the B* process and wondering if I should "freeze"? I recently received some strange denials for to many inqs., I only had 2 inqs. at the time.

did you read the posts in this thread and the linked threads?

perhaps you can take the time to post your strange denials to help contribute to our understanding of how creditors use alternative CRAs.

Thankfully, I've yet to be declined for too many apps/inqs. And I've B* all my inqs from EQ/TU.

My recent approval for US Bank Cash+ for example, probably should have been declined for this very reason, but it wasn't. I'm going to chill for a long time though, just to make sure that this doesn't become a problem for me.

I do question the effectiveness and/or impact of ARS...

I am now going to work on freezing these alternative CRAs. Just plain sucks that we have to spend on this crap.

I recently did a free trial on IdentityGuard. On the identity report section it identified my only 2 Visa apps from this year in it. I think it gets this via a soft from ICS? If so what would be the use of freezing ARS if they can still soft and find out? Of course it wont let them add any new ones which might still do the job.

I found the EQ and TU FAKOs from IdentityGuard to be within 2 points of EQ FICO and TU98 FICO which is insane. Based on that accuracy levels and IdentityGuard EX FAKO, I think I have a good approximation of my current EX FICO.

I just skimmed originally, after re-reading I have answered my own question. The denials have already been mentioned, they were BOA and US Bank.

Since this is the master thread, I will post some more threads that I am running into while reading more about these. I think the biggest pain in the ARS is that they don't have an online link to freeze, only unfreeze/refreeze. Must be for our "safety" :aggressive:

A new CRA Maybe? declined by BOFA cause of them?

CRAs that cause adverse credit card action ARS, LIR, IDA

a CRA that consolidates data on credit applications for Visa and MasterCard

A Direct c/p for Those of you who do not count ICS/IES/Innovis as CRA Number 4

Fatwallet thread AOR unfriendly CRA's reminder, IDA and Advanced Resolution Services

FatWallet Thread Free Consumer Reports credit, employment, insurance w LINKS to MIB CLUE Innovis ARS Chex

 pain in the ARS

IMO, ARS is not as important now as it was in the heyday of the AOR. However...

You should order your report before you freeze - you may find you don't have to. You may also find the report quite interesting...

For example, mine does not show ALL Visa/MC apps (even though it's supposed to), there are a couple missing. It also showed a couple of dupes, as well as applications and inquiries older than 2 years.

In addition, some creditors pull ARS for non-Visa/MC applications and these show up as inquiries.

Finally, ARS is not the only agency disseminating this information. Case in point:

I was denied membership in JFCU for "number of inquiries on EQ" when I had 0 (yes, ZERO!) inquiries. But JFCU did NOT pull ARS. Their Adverse Action Notice states that "information was obtained from an outside source other than a consumer reporting agency" but when I request disclosure under the FRA they simply send another copy of the original Adverse Action Notice with no further disclosure. It seems their interpretation of the FRA is, the consumer has the right to request disclosure but JFCU is under no obligation to provide it.  Presumably they are above the law.

:offtopic:

JFCU is the first CU ever to make Occam's blacklist. They are to be congratulated because it is a very select list and it takes unusual effort to qualify.

Yes I am trying to obtain a report first. I think even with the report frozen they will be able to send the full report to the account owner? Anyways I will grab the report first.

That is quite interesting. I am guessing that the missing INQs are from CU issued cards?

Yup, I remember your saga. I received an AA for "Cannot verify ID", although during membership application itself I had sent my ID, Utility Bill, 3 month paystubs, 2 year tax returns, NSA membership, zero INQs + 809 EQ FICO etc. Not blacklisted yet though haha

of course i'm going to try and bump as many inquiries off of my CR as possible... if I am not seeking credit in the future from these companies than why should I be concerned. what is the difference from seeking a DV and fighting CA that we all know are real and legitimate? i've never claimed identity theft from any of the inquiries... i'm basically saying... i don't remember this... prove it or remove it. they didn't even try to prove it, they just removed it. all of the others are at least trying to show proof.

That's not bumping inquiries... additionally, it's probably still vulnerable to the issues being described in this topic.
