WAD and BOB,

I got my AMEX Gold card and it says Member since 2012. Im going to wait however to see what the actual credit report says because that is all that matters right? If its showing 1982, then it has successfully worked. If not, then I assume I should petition AMEX to get backdated, but I might as well wait rather than bring attention to it if its not needed. Do you have any thoughts on that?

Also, can you be added to an existing mortgage or a car loan?

And can you be added to a loan that has already been paid off? Im guessing NO, but I thought Id at least ask, you know what the hell.

Thanks guys.

Mike, it should backdate. If it doesn't appear proper on your report, you should contact them. I'm not sure on the exact procedure on it. There are discussions on here and myfico forum regarding getting backdating to work.

I only have credit card experience, so I'm not going to try to grasp at straws. Hopefully someone can help you with those accounts.

Bob,

There are tricks to getting all of these that only do "same address" to report.

1) You must add the individual to a card that for sure reports them based on their SSN, such as Barclay or Citi, Cap One, etc.

-- This will update their credit profile with your address once Barclay, Citi, etc report them.

2) Once the other cards have reported them, your address should appear on their report. Now add them to the "address must match" cards. They should report.

This is not a "guaranteed" way, but it works pretty often.

ASK

American Express (5 AUs)

Bank of America (Reports AU if address is the same) (May no longer report AUs)

Barclays

Capital One (When calling, Asks for Employer, Address, DOB, mother's maiden name, 5 AUs)

Citi

HSBC (If Capital One issues it)

NFCU

PenFed (Mail back pdf, DOB & Relationship)

RBS

UMB (Snail mail form for AUs, Relationship)

USAA (Phone, DOB & Relationship, AU also becomes USAA member)

US Bank (Fax pdf form back, 4 AUs)

DON'T ASK

CFNA (Firestone)

Chase (Report AUs at same address)

Discover Card (9 AUs, Report AUs at same address)

GEMB (4 AUs)

Lexus

Macy's (8 AUs, Report AUs at same address)

State Farm

US Bank (No ask if you call in)

CAN GIVE

?

CAN'T GIVE

HSBC (non-Capital One) will not take SSN of AU (Will report if AU has same address) (May no longer add AUs)

Just a data point for you Bob. Called this evening and asked about having a new card issued with the member since 1982 on it, instead of the 2012. The rep said he didnt think they did it but he would check. Came back after about a minute on hold and said your new card with 1982 on it should be there in 5-10 days. So score on that, thanks again for the advice. My dad has 4 other AMEX's that I can get added to. I kind of want to see how they affect my credit score 1 by 1, so I can measure any value, but to be added to that many AMEX's I would think should help me a lot with aging and payment history.

Now I have to go in and begin my attempt to start trying to get deletions, the tough part and the long battle ahead. If anyone wants to help me with that war with any really good tips and strategies, I am all ears!

No, this is just a list of issuers who ask for the SSNs of AUs

Hi,

I can also confirm that, GEMB (Dillards Amex), Discover (Discover More) and Chase (Chase Disney) all add AUs without asking for the SS#. They also report to all 3 CBs and non of the AUs live with me.

I plan to add someone to my USAA Amex tomorrow and will report back if they require an SS#. For some reason they are not allowing me to do it online, I have to call in tomorrow to add someone.

BTW, hi Bob! Is AMEX now only asking for SS#s or are they still asking for the SS# and a copy of the SS card? Have they eased up a bit? I sure hope so. :)

I think the SSN card was unique to me.

I haven't heard of that being requested of anybody else. :P

I get this annoying letter every month asking for the ss# for my AU's with Amex.

Just thought I'd update that the Cap1 and HSBC cards (now cap1 owned) I added my teenagers on as AUs have started reporting for them. My oldest son is starting his sophomore year of college. He had two student loans from last year showing on his credit report, with nothing owed since he's still in school and no other credit whatsoever. Those gave him a 650 credit score per PSECU. Can't wait to see what the two AU accounts do when scores come out in September.

Just looked at credit.com. FWIW, that estimates his EXP at 767. The AU accounts are factored into his AAOA. The student loans are 11 months old. AAOA with my two accounts is 34 months. Not great, but not a shabby start for a 19 year old. (Rebuilding ourselves after BK7 in 05, so we don't have a lot of age to share.)

PSECU scores just updated. DS's Experian score is now 764. So credit.com was very close for him, and the two AU accounts made a huge difference.

AmEx needed copies of the physical cards themselves for all my AUs, not just the numbers. ;)

I HAD all the SSNs, 3 AUs couldn't get copies of their cards to me within 2 weeks, so AmEx closed all my cards.

Hi Bob, hope you are having a great weekend! Just an update and a few data points for you:

1) I was added as an AU to a Discover opened in 2000, and a Macy's card in 1982. Both are showing on my credit reports for those years as opening date.

2) For the AMEX's, I was listed as an AU on 3 of them and after calling and requesting to have "member since 81" listed on all of the cards, AMEX re-issued them all to reflect that. On my credit report however, they show listed as being opened in August of 2012.

3) Getting added as an AU, along with trying to get some old addresses removed was my first step before trying to get some of the nastier charge offs challenged and removed, which I havent done yet. I wanted to go in phases though so I can see what works and how much of a bump so I take it to mean that being added as an AU is what is the reason for my credit score increases. The changes to the scores since that time I started about 6 weeks ago are currently:

EX and EQ= From around 560 to 640

TU= From 592 to 705

My main question I have for you if you have the time to answer is, how do I get the AMEX's to show up on my credit report as being opened in 1981, not 8/12? And is that important if it doesn't and I am already seeing the benefit from it? I dont think the Discover and Macys cards were the result of that so even though the AMEX opening date is still of 8/12, OR is perhaps the info showing up from 81 even though it doesnt say it was opened then? I am obviously getting a huge bump in my scores so I am thinking that it is but would love to know if not and if there was anything I should do or can do? Thanks in advance for all your feedback.

My main question I have for you if you have the time to answer is, how do I get the AMEX's to show up on my credit report as being opened in 1981, not 8/12? Wait 2 statement cycles, if they're not backdated, call AmEx again.

And is that important if it doesn't and I am already seeing the benefit from it? You need the older date on credit reports to benefit

I dont think the Discover and Macys cards were the result of that so even though the AMEX opening date is still of 8/12, OR is perhaps the info showing up from 81 even though it doesnt say it was opened then? Having an AmEx, even as AU is a benefit, especially on manual review.

I am obviously getting a huge bump in my scores so I am thinking that it is but would love to know if not and if there was anything I should do or can do? Yes, get your "real" FICO scores to see where you stand.

I got those scores from Credit Secure thru Amex which gives you all 3 bureau reports and scores, so I am assuming those must be FAKO's? Where would you recommend getting "true FICO's" if Credit Secure doesn't have the ones I need? MyFico.com?

I know home lenders use your "real" FICO. Does that also apply for credit card issuers or do they go by FAKOs? What is the exact point then of FAKOs since all the sites out there seem to be FAKOs????

This is so frustrating to try and find out where I actually am and the process to try and repair my credit, but I do sincerely appreciate your help on everything, I cant say it enough.

Ok I went to myfico.com and got my EQ and TU scores and now I am brought back to reality and $17 poorer.

MY EQ score is showing at 579, TU at 612 compared to FAKO's of 640/705. Since I didnt look a few months ago at what the 579/612 were, then I dont actually know how much those went up, only the FAKO's.

Man this sucks, feel like I am stuck on an island with no idea how to get off of.

Bob,

This may be a stupid question but why do FAKO's exist if nobody uses them and they are incorrect? That pretty much implies that every credit service outside of one that gives you your real FICO, is a scam. Of course that isnt shocking for the credit industry. Is there anyone who actually uses the same scores you can buy on the various FAKo sites????? If a CC company is going to pull my credit, and I see a 705 so I applied for it, but in reality it is a 605, of course they are going to turn it down. Or are there some places that actually use your FAKO?

The "real" FAKOs, like Experian PLUS, explicitly state that they are "educational" scores, NOT available to any credit-issuers.

So, all Experian claims is that they are giving you an indication or your credit-worthiness, but not to rely on that score.

The other big "FAKO" is VantageScore, which is not techincally a FAKO any more because some issuers actually DO use that score.

Then there's the rumored separate issue of lenders using an internal score, and not disclosing it to the borrower.

I had added a non-Stealth Influence CBer to my RBS MasterCard last year.

Did not report to any of the bureaus.

She recently got a BofA secured card, and asked me to add her to one of my older cards.

So, I added her to my 1999 BofA Accelerated Rewards American Express.

That card just reported to all 3 for her.

So, BofA goes back on the list as reporting AUs. :D

I had added my kids as AUs on Cap1 and HSBC cards several months ago. These are reporting, and definitely made a difference in their PSECU Experian FICO when they first showed up. My son's PSECU EX went from 650 to around 750.

The only other credit items are his student loans; two from last year and two new ones that are in deferment since he's a sophomore.

He applied for the Citi student card and was denied for high loan balances and lack of recent revolving credit. They told him that is Experian score was 609. So apparently they are not using FICO, but some other scoring device that excludes the AUs even though they are reported on Experian and FICO includes them.

Discover approved him, so that's a least a start and he can try next summer for another visa or mc student product when he's had a few months of revolving credit in his own name.
