As Boomhower said, they're cheaper than providing actual FICO scores. They cost the banks money just like they cost the consumer money. They're just cheaper for the banks...

These scores are more important than FICO. If this is the score the FI is using to make their credit decision then you might say that FICO is really the FAKO!!!

I got approved for a Best Buy card 2 weeks ago. Got a letter from HSBC today saying my credit score from Equifax is 352 which freaked me out. But then I read lower on the page that the range of scores is from a low of 85 to a high of 394. Equifax's website has nothing like these score listed.

customer scores are probably updated occasionally. some issuers might fit them into the same distribution but others will simply report a new score (and range)

I was approved for HSBC Best Buy card, HSBC internal scoring model was 100-300. My score was 278.

I got approved with Navy and it says my score was 656 from EQ which was right about where my Fico was.

I got that too. I thought that was a Beacon 5 FICO from EQ, am I wrong?
