One thing that has been interesting about this journey of credit repair, is that I am still not out of debt. If you look at page 1 of this thread, that was half the original desire I had of joining CB in the first place.

Gaining excellent credit also gave me excellent credit options... used car loans turned into new car loans, and one 0% BT offer after another for the past 3-4 years. Doesn't encourage paying things off.

I have some positive news. I only have 1 credit card left with a balance on it that isn't PIF monthly... and it is at 0% (of course.. haven't paid a penny in interest in years). But I am ready and determined to get that debt to 0. This is my pledge CB ... to be CC free. My balances haven't grown at all in 12 months now and I have been more and more aggressive the past 6 months in paying them down.

Also on a secondary note... I have been accepted to do a Doctor of Chiropractic program so my life (and debt levels) will be changing dramatically. It is a four year program, and the average student borrows $200,000 to attend. Exciting huh.

You could always churn Amex cards for more D*.

EXPLAIN! You have my full attention :)

What's your member D*? Close a couple, open a couple more. Rinse and repeat every year. Your AAOA will grow a lot.

Remember, AAOA is open AND closed accounts.

Yup... max out the number of revolvers and charge cards... and cycle 1-2 every 12 months. With a solid D* number on your amex you could potentially build a profile that no app spree or UW can question. Edited by nysbadmk8

Super interesting.... honestly I probably don't need to do it as I have no app sprees ever again in my future and my credit profile is super sexy as it is. I also don't want to lemonade Amex off as I have never had a FR. Is there a way to open a new card, close an old card, and do it without a hard INQ? If you do a product change with amex how does it report on your CRs?

I doubt churning a card or two a year will lemonade them off... but you're right. If you have no Intrest in pushing the boundaries then this won't make much sense for you. If you can get D* past 20 years... then it can definitely help push you into the 830-850 area.

There are 2 revolvers that I want long-term. I figure I can fill the other 2 and then every year close 1 and open another. That way, each card is open 2 years, which is not that bad. By the time you make it through several cycles of this, your profile will probably be at a point where AAOA won't be helped by D*.

I also don't want to lemonade Amex off ?

That's somewhere between hyperbole and anthropomorphism.

I have worked damn hard on this rolling credit thread. If anyone brings Justin Bieber into my rolling credit thread again (which I have worked so hard on) I will have the MOD's close it permanently. Polluting my baby gentleman. Polluting my baby here you are.

Just kidding. #GoOrlando.

But on a serious note... I think I am as D*'d as I am going to get. At first I D* to 1983, which became very problematic as I was born in 1984. It turns out the credit bureaus really don't like that. I am now D* to 2000, and I turned 18 in 2002... I think that is probably good enough, and I will just have to be patient for 830-850 if having 20 year old lines is what it takes to get there.

Kayvebear -- out of curiosity, why no new credit cards? Why not apply for something to get yourself a free flight to somewhere exciting for spring break 2015, or to get a hotel stay covered for a chiropractic conference?

Sure, the 820 credit score might give you warm fuzzies, but there's an Opportunity Cost...

When the right opportunity comes I do apply moneypts :) But the thicker my profile gets the less opportunities that come - especially since I don't have any interest in cards with an AF at this point in my life. The cards with nice offers these days all have AF's

CR's and FICO goes haywire when you have a personal card that was opened before you were born. If memory serves Amex decided also that they didn't like it as well. Unfortunately my step father opened the amex one year before I was born :P

So I did something exciting and intelligent just now.

I had chase move some of my credit line from my Chase Amazon Visa to my Chase Slate card. My Chase Slate card now has a 30,000$ line (never had a card above $25k before) ...

My Chase slate card is also the card that I currently carry a $12,700 balance on at 0%. I had a $22,400 limit before so that means I had a 56% UTIL on that card. (My overall UTIL is less than 4% and probably less than 1% if you include my AU accounts)... but I know having a UTIL above 50% on a single card hurts FICOS.

My new UTIL on that card with current balance is 42%... which is smart smart smarty pants on my part because the 0% BT is over in October at which point I will probably apply for a CITI card to transfer at 0% towards...

This might be what finally boosts my FICO's above 800!!!!!!! Here is to hoping.

Get it under 20% and I bet that cashes your ticket to 800

Just sent a huge (for me) payment off to Chase. I now only have a $9999 balance on my 30k Chase Slate and it is my only CC balance which brings my Util on that card to 33%. That means that card will go from 54% to 33% util in one month...

Me thinks I am going to break 800 on fico this month for the first time.

I ran through a ton of numbers today, and figured out that if all goes according to plan I will be out of credit card debt by December. It will be the first time in over 10 years that I haven't had credit card debt.

That will leave me with roughly 33k in student loans, and 13k in auto loans. Both of which (for whatever reason) feel a lot more responsible to have than CC debt. I am EXCITED.
