So If I wanted a platinum card would it be best to be an AU on platinum or does it not matter?

I don't think it matters.

As long as you haven't burned AmEx, it's pretty much show your $450, and you're in. :D

Bob do any of your AUs have BKs that ARE reporting? Obviously they haven't burned Amex, but I'm curious if a BK would prevent AU much like it does with regular apps.

jds, I honestly don't know.

I operate under the "Don't ask, don' tell" and "Need to know" principles. :D

Fair enough. I'm fairly sure GGE had one, but I don't think it's reporting.

Never burned AMEX, is $450 the annual fee or the cost to have a platinum au? Either way I think I can swing it!

Oh, it's only $175 for Platinum AU,a bargain! :P

Do you put CB AUs on your platinum?

I have $175 sitting around to pay Amex to F/R me, LOL! tongue.gif

Definitely worth the investment!

Good luck to all current and future AUs! We should create our own (password protected) website where we share stories and theories and trials and such!

So I could set it at $1000? Is there really any point in having an AU even use the card?

Yes, or less.

And yes, Amex's scoring model is a mystery but it's been alluded by some that they view the history on the AU card when determining whether or not to issue the AU a primary card.

The Platinum CSR specifically asked me if I wanted to set a limit on the CBer I tried to add today.

Having the AU use the card and pay it off makes it look more legit.

Otherwise, it could look like one is just peddling piggybacking.

Plus the AU can get access to CS, which is nice, too.

Well I can state that I got an AU on my dad's Blue card with a BK Ch 7 showing and no credit pull showing on my Equ report (Exp and TU frozen) and I had burned Amex in 1994. Now after this they did turn me down for an Amex corporate card for my employer though, so it seems the AU route is easier than on your own applying.

That's in complete contrast to my situation. I can't get an AU account, but I was able to get a corporate card, as long as the company also backed it. It seems to me there isn't much difference between a company backed corporate card and an AU (either way, they have someone else to go after), but it's been different for me.

I'm wondering if I pay Amex what I owe if it would unlock AU possibilities (and allow me to get a card in the future, once the BK falls off).

There used to be the Oasis program, but I can't find any current info on it.

Yeah, I know. I'm thinking about calling them tomorrow. It can't hurt really. If it doesn't sound promising I'll just ditch it. Since it's BK, they can't ask me for money - I have to come to them.

the question is, how much do you owe, jds? there was another thread where somebody wanted to pay off AmEx 3k that was included in BK...for what, a privilege of having their card? 3k?

Yeah, AmEx has lost a LOT of its appeal to me. :P

:) it ain't all that bad :) but I wouldn't shell out 3K just to have AmEx - I am paying $25 for Zync, and I could be willing to pay for more expensive cards...but there is a limit :)

A fair question, and it's that question that is the reason I haven't decided yet whether it makes any sense to do it. I owe less than that, but it's still not chump change. I'm likely going to be doing some international travel in the next few years and I'm wondering whether the rewards might make it worthwhile.

I wouldn't do it just for the account age, though it's a nice added bonus.

You don't have that much to complain BW :)...common....temp freeze for less than a week, and came out with flying colors, no AA and all AUs intact? I say they were "on the level" with you....you tested them with tons of AUs, and they checked you out - no harm, no foul, right?

Can I whine a LITTLE about it? :P
