Due to the "Amex wants Hege" thread I was inspired enough to apply for a card via their pre-selector on the Amex website.

I applied for the Gold Delta Sky Miles and was approved. I finally got the card in the mail yesterday and logged in to activate and found that they had approved me for 20K and and backdated me to 1988...!!!

I'm happy...and I'll update when it affects my Fico.

At 747 now with a 5 point increase yesterday probably due to losing my last two inq. We'll see how this correlates to my age and rise in points although by the time that this reports my utilization will be lower and I'll have less cards reporting balances.

Length of Credit History: 6 Years , 9 Months

Average Account Age: 2 Years, 12 Months

Length of Credit History How long you've had credit.

Poor

^^^This should change to a much better ingredient. ^^^

Congrats, TLO!

Going from a 7 year to a 23 year history SHOULD be worth some points. :D

Thanks BW, card states 201l; but that's okay....as long as it reports age from 1988.

Call Card Replacement, 88 looks SO much better than 11. :P

I agree... :good:

I need to add a new white whale...!!

Maybe something from Navy..? It seems almost too easy though..maybe I should lay low also....I wouldn't want Amex to freak over other new additions to the fold so soon.

Two more calls to different CSR's ..... told no both times on backdating to AU's date.

I used the phone options to get to card replacement. One CSR spoke to the supervisor who confirmed for her that an AU cannot take advantage of the primary cardholders member date.

Anyone have a number they called for successful backdating?

I will not give up! (but I don't want to call so many times that I raise a red flag either)

Demantoid:

Your card that you are trying to backdate is an AmEx Green.

What card are you AU on?

If your AU card has a Member Since date on it, maybe try to get THAT one backdated to the proper date, THEN work on your Green.

Thanks for your help Bob.

I am an AU on my father's AMEX green account. The AU card that arrived for me has a member since date of 2011. I am trying to get that card backdated to my dad's member since date. So far I have only been successful at getting it backdated to 2005 which is the date on my own cards.

I am not trying to get my own cards backdated yet. I will try that after I get the AU card backdated.

I thought that was the way I had to do it, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Your father, the primary account holder on his Green, has to request that you, the Authorized User, be backdated.

If that can be done, your Member Since date on your login should change to HIS year.

Once that occurs, getting your own Green backdated should be easy.

THANK YOU!! I didn't realize my dad needed to call in to backdate me. I think I will wait until I'm with him to have him call so I can guide him on what to say from the sidelines.

Make sure you get the "right" CSR.

For many years I was told I could not backdate my AUs.

Then I started waiting till I got a nice girl on the line...

So, in the JaseT's AmEx thread, 2 people who found my posts had a sense of "entitlement", R2010 and mmm, were both AUs? what is this, trying to be protective of Papa Bear?

And BW, of course, dangles something in front of CB members, but once people start discussing it, he surely withdraws from any discussion. <--ENTITLEMENT

Protective, yes, obviously. Someone entrusts you with something as sensitive as personal information, I would expect caution and protection to be used.

And the 'entitlement' came from asking, repeatedly, to be added. As AUs we were honored when it was OFFERED to us. We didn't create threads, which brought more attention, which Bob has decided to roll with, graciously. And even if he had 'dangled' and then withdrawn (which he didn't, as he was specifically talking to two people and not all creditboard members) he has the right to do so as no one is ENTITLED to get help from him. And hence where some of us where coming from with our posts.

I probably shouldn't even have entertained that post with a response but someone had to say it.

Now I will go back and read this thread like I started to before I got distracted by the middle of the first page. I swear I see something shiny and I veer off paths like Kelly Bundy sometimes.

I was about ask before I saw this comment, which is a perfect lead-in so I quoted it.

Do we have any notion of any Centurion Bank cards that may be "useless" to AU someone on for purposes of backdating? For example, my father had a few AMEXes in the late 70s-early 90s, but closed all of them. He has no interest in paying an AF, but he would like to rejoin for me to help me backdate. He doesn't travel, so a lot of the perks of many of the cards are unnecessary. Therefore, I'm thinking the Blue cash is ideal for him. (He recently received a mail pre-screen for Blue sky... though he may not end up qualifying.) However, since this card doesn't have a "member since" date on it, would it still be useful for AU'ing me and backdating my AU account? I do not have any current Centurion Bank cards that could complicate things.

However, there is a difference between asking repeatedly and friendly teasing. Initially your reply gave me an impression that you were "butt hurt" (as most internet forum users say these days) and almost offended that anyone dare ask BW for AU status. However, I do understand where you're coming from. I suppose that ultimately it is up to BW to entertain such individuals. Him and I have already spoken, months ago, about my wishes. However I see no problem in being a friendly annoyance to him. He is well aware of my objectives and shouldn't take my public sideways requests to be an AU seriously.

Some people, RB2010, don't want to be an AU and would rather achieve their credit without the help of others in that regard. I entertained the idea with Demantoid but even told him? that we can talk once he's an AU but for now - it is what it is.

My successful graduate is an AU on my Blue for American Express.

Those cards do not have a Member Since year embossed.

BUT, they do show as opened in 1982.

My AU was successful in backdating an AmEx Gold to 1982.

once again, I miss all the posts.

R2010, you just confused me with somebody else, I think....go back and check my posts -

- I have never created any threads about AmEx AU

- I have never, before that thread, asked BW about it

- Unlike some people, I don't follow and post in all BW's AU's threads.

I have asked once, directly, in 1 post, in that thread - that was it...I have spelled out why exactly I think I would be a good candidate....I didn't tease or joke about, I just wrote why it would help me, and possibly others.

repeatedly asking, friendly teasing, creating threads, bringing attention - that's all missing the target, sorry....that's not my posts.

A. Not butt hurt at all, THAT would be ridiculous, when I said no one is entitled to it, I included myself in that. If I was 'stingy' I wouldn't be so eager to add my own AUs.

B. This post related more to an old thread, not to this thread, as it has been clearly deemed a free for all here, but like BW said, the floodgates have opened so may as well have at it. That was not the case before, in fact people have blocked pms because they get so many requests to be an AU. Perhaps one person asking to be an AU is a not a big deal, but getting 100+ takes it to a new level.

C. (Teasing and friendly annoyance)Reminding someone you asked a question is the same as asking the question again, please don't kid yourself. If my nephew tells me he wants an Optimus Prime toy, I'll probably get it for him. If he asks me twenty times for it, he's probably not getting anything. (I think I made this comparison in the last thread). And if he tells me "It's ok I still love you" he's getting a time out, I don't want him growing up with that sense of entitlement to something that he has done nothing to earn.

This isn't my battle to fight, I don't think I made more than two posts in the last thread, and I'm sure BW doesn't see it as a battle at all. I'm just trying to clarify for VK the perspective of those posts, and I have a problem where I can't not respond to someone something says, so this is getting into a bigger discussion than it should be and taking the focus off the topic of the thread, but I'll keep making what I think are valid points via pm if anyone continues to have an issue with my views (and wants to have a mature respectful discussion about it).

Sigh. Perhaps you can read the posts back as well. No one said "VK you're not entitled" it was more like "people aren't entitled". Again in my recent posts I did not say I was talking about you, threads have been created many times to ask for AU status, pms have been sent, etc. In all fairness the last post could have been misconstrued as being about you because I was replying to you, so I amend my post to say

"Came from [PEOPLE] asking repeatedly... create threads [LIKE OTHER PEOPLE]...."

and apologize for any misunderstanding on that ONE point. Not the others.

Now, that's what I am talking about.

funny thing, I mostly agree with you on all this - there were too many threads, too many PMs (I assume, I don't have access to BW's inbox), too many "pretty please" requests...some of that "I will do anything you want", butt-kissing stuff makes one pretty nauseous, actually.

Like you said, all your replies about that stuff was to my posts, so I felt that I was the one singled out for this. I am not one of the "PEOPLE".

Will the real Slim Shady, please stand up??? Paging Mr. Bob Wang!!! Now, we all know what a voyeur you are....but still, feel free to post about this....for one, perhaps you can clarify that VK never PM'ed you or asked to be an AU before recently? Common, don't let R2010 do all the heavy lifting - she is a girl, and tired of answering "jerks" like me :)
