OK, I called in and gave them my PIN for Experian, and I was approved for the MB Platinum. The agent I talked to was exceptionally eager, as if I had won some sort of lottery. :P

He thanked me for being a member since... uh, 2011. :o I corrected him and told him that my "member since" date had recently changed to 1995, and he talked around it. He thanked me repeatedly for being a member for "such a long time" but stopped short of confirming that the date on my new card would show 1995.

I'll have the card in 24-72 hours and will report back.

He couldn't help me with the SPG app. He told me that they didn't want to damage my credit by pulling my credit file multiple times in one day, and that I should call back in 5 days for assistance with the second app.

As if pulling my credit twice on TWO days in a five-day period was somehow less damaging. :aggressive:

I'll post this scenario in a thread more related to the discussion of two Amexes in one day = one inquiry. I really didn't want two cards, much less two Experian inquiries, so I may just let the SPG app die a painless death.

congrats on the new card, "he didnt want to damage credit"? he should have said "if I pull again it will look like an error and will get removed from report" lol

Hey, thanks. Yeah, this guy was way too eager, and way too under-informed. Whatever. I got the card I wanted and *D to 1995. Life is good. :yu:

Just like you rep told me you have to wait 5 days between approvals for new app. Got approved after 1 day. Probably should have attempted to app same day to avoid extra inq...or maybe that waiting period only applies to "similar products"...

I got a call from Amex the day after the Plat approval wanting to help me finish up the SPG app. I was very much over it at that point and took a pass. I have so many cards already I don't know whether to chocolate or go blind.

Curious?

I lost one of my cards.

I had to order a new one.

Technically it's a new account number

Will the new one report as a new account on my report?

Will the closed one show up on report still and therefore if aged help AAOA?

Thank you for input.

This is not the thread to be asking this question.

To answer your question though, from my experience they remove the old account from the reports and the new one reports has all of the old history.

OK.........

So let me get this straight....

The purpose here is to show you've been an AU for years and that gives you a good shot at an AMEX approval?

I have my father that has his card for 10 years now..

and I'm ready to tell my old man to put me as his AU..

Knowing that they typically pull EX, do I have to worry about what's on my file?

its about trying to get your fathers member since date on your cards

does that date on my AU card help me get an AMEX cc? (after my file is clean)

and when you call to ask for the AU, can you tell them that same day you want that date?

The last thing on my list is to work on my AAOA, I already have an Amex though since I didn't have anyone I trusted enough to put me on as an AU on their account. Is it still possible to get *D if you already have your own card and then you're added as an AU, *D on the AU card, and then ask for *D on your own (existing) account?

Pretty sure one of my parents had an Amex long ago but it might have been IIB more than 20 years ago and subsequently closed. Saw the thread about emailing in the SSN to their CSRs and claiming to be an AU when you really weren't an AU to get *D that way but it seem kind of fishy to me.

That's what I did. Had my own Amex. Then a friend added me as an AU on his. Got the AU card D* to his date. Then got my own Amex D* to the AU card date. Presto!

Once your login date is changed , you are good to go.

Caution is good, however in this case , no need for it.

What about business and personal mixed together?

I have three Amex business cards. When I log in, it says member since 1993. Going on this logic, I always planned to apply for personal Amex card so that nice backdating would actually affect my personal credit score (boosting my average age of accounts) since my three biz cards do not report to my credit report.

Today was the day. I was on the phone applying for my new Amex personal card. The CSR even thanked me for being a member since 1993 as he could clearly see. So I threw out this backdating question with regard to my personal card application. He put me on hold to research. When he came back, he said the new personal card would say 2013 since business and personal use different member dates. I was in disbelief. I was actually so put off my this that I cancelled the app and hung up.

Can this really be true? Again, my online account page says 1993. I am assuming my personal card would be accessed under the same login. So when I log in , I should see my three biz cards and my eventual new personal card....all backdated to 1993.

Any experience on this would help. Thanks!

I was a business cardmember back in 1997, and was approved in Aug for a Green. When I got my card (showing 2013 date), I called in, and asked that the account "properly reflect" my account history with AmEx, since AmEx is such a prestigious company and card to have. They said no problem, the website was updated, and they rush delivered the card to me showing 1997. I DID not mention "business", only that I had been a cardmember since 1997. They have not reported to the CRAs yet, and I should see something by the end of this month. I'll post what happens.

In the meantime, wait till you receive your physical card, and when you call in to activate, mention that you would like the card to properly reflect your relationship with AmEx. Let's see what happens.

Thanks for your advice. I'll do that.

I ended up calling the "Credit Bureau Unit" at Amex and they said that the card will reflect my older member date. So when I called to apply again for the same card, zi couldn't resist and made it an issue again. This time, after putting me hold, the CSR came back telling me it will reflect the older date. Contradicting info. I don't foresee a problem. We'll see.

I wish I trusted someone enough for such a thing. Both my parents had bad credit and were never an Amex carrier. With 3 Amex cards of my own and dating back to 2012 doesn't do much. It would be nice to get them backed like 10 years. Lol

Call early in the morning , tomorrow, speak to a Us Rep

Try Backdating, don't mention backdate. Casually mention can you make sure our cards dates are the same.

If they mail you a new one , she is good.

It should work.

Investigation was probably initiated by robots on Sundays...

I had same issue .

Resolved!!!

OK. I just got the personal Amex card...my first one. It has the member date of 1993 like my business cards. It seems to have worked. The final (and more important) result will be on the credit report. I haven't seen that yet as it has not reported as of this writing. I will update again when it does.

in my attempt to get my wife's AU card D* to my date , American Express "opens" an investigation and will contact me when complete. Has anyone ever been given this verbage?

Success! Her online member since date changed and I got a notification that a new card has been requested for her. Does this mean it'll be easy when she applies for her own card?
