Let me try this again. If I get approved for a new Amex, will it start reporting with my original "member since" date of 1995?

I've read that current cards take 1-2 reporting cycles to show the revised member date after *D has occurred. My current Gold card tradeline has not updated since *D, and still shows an open date of 2011.

I'm thinking the two aren't related, and that any new card would immediately report an open date of 1995.

Thoughts?

I wish I had some insight for you cv. I specifically waited for my "correct" member since date to catch on my reports before I applied for another card. I wanted to make sure each piece was in place before I went on to the next based on two reasons. 1. I didn't want to possibly have to go back and fix it if for some reason they didn't start reporting "properly" at which point I had a couple/few cards thus complicating things (however slightly). 2. The few posts on this thread where some had Amex dig in their heels against them for whatever reason. I figured too much, too fast, too many phone calls, potential red flag. Overabundance of caution? Possibly, but if I had to do it again I would do it the same way. However, I do believe that once the date changes on login you're probably good to go and you would probably be fine, but for sure I'm not certain, hence I don't have a definite answer to your question. It was hard to wait. As soon as my member since changed on login I wanted to app immediately.

FWIW, the new BCE first statement closed Friday and just got picked up by Exp this morning and all is good. D* acheived on both cards.

Thanks for the comments. I'm sort of "in a hurry" because the MB Platinum has a 50,000 MR signup bonus. A potential trip to Italy in November or December just popped up, so I'd like to get the card ASAP so I can meet the minimum spend and get the points to use on hotels.

Otherwise I might just bide my time...

...Wait, who am I kidding?? Patience is not one of my strong suits!!

Thanks again.

Once your login date is changed , you are good to go.

Caution is good, however in this case , no need for it.

I think your comments make two in favor of apping like a crazy man. :P

Thank you.

I am pretty cautious and I am saying It because it has worked precisely that way.

Don't app like crazy , easy does it!!

You don't need or want a FR.

Well, I didn't mean it quite like that. I want the MB Platinum and one other card (hoping for just one pull if I do both apps in the same day). That'll be the extent of my craziness, at least for the next several months.

Smart plan, if your Experian is Clean .

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Report back.

Experian is clean as a whistle.

I will report back.

On the to-do list today: Choosing Amex #2 for this round of apps.

So my fiancé has a plat AMEX, through work that he opened 4-5 years ago. He is looking to open a Gold AMEX for personal/biz use. His credit is in the 800s so that is not any issue. I told him about this thread and he is going to try to get it backdated after he applies.

It's just a matter of getting the new card and calling them to do that right?

I'll let you know how it turns out.

Then..... I hope to become an AU... Tee hee. I won't have a backdated card like some of you people, but hey, I'd be happy just to have one.

On the to-do list today: Choosing Amex #2 for this round of apps.

UPDATE: I decided to get the MB Platinum (for the lounge access and the 50,000 signup bonus that'll pay for the $475 AF in year one) and the SPG (for the "enhanced" 30,000-point signup bonus that I know will come in handy for our trip to Italy in late 2013 or early 2014.

Experian is frozen, so I expected to have to call in. The message I got on the MB Platinum app is consistent with that, but I got a more general "14 day" message on the SPG. I think if they were going to decline me for the SPG it would have been automatic based on the last soft they pulled. Wondering if I'll get approved for both when I give them my Experian PIN.

Thoughts on either app before I call?

I just got an email specifically regarding my SPG app, and it had a link to the application page. Both the MBP and the SPG have the same status.

OK, I called in and gave them my PIN for Experian, and I was approved for the MB Platinum. The agent I talked to was exceptionally eager, as if I had won some sort of lottery. :P

He thanked me for being a member since... uh, 2011. :o I corrected him and told him that my "member since" date had recently changed to 1995, and he talked around it. He thanked me repeatedly for being a member for "such a long time" but stopped short of confirming that the date on my new card would show 1995.

I'll have the card in 24-72 hours and will report back.

He couldn't help me with the SPG app. He told me that they didn't want to damage my credit by pulling my credit file multiple times in one day, and that I should call back in 5 days for assistance with the second app.

As if pulling my credit twice on TWO days in a five-day period was somehow less damaging. :aggressive:

I'll post this scenario in a thread more related to the discussion of two Amexes in one day = one inquiry. I really didn't want two cards, much less two Experian inquiries, so I may just let the SPG app die a painless death.

Hey, thanks. Yeah, this guy was way too eager, and way too under-informed. Whatever. I got the card I wanted and *D to 1995. Life is good. :yu:

Once your login date is changed , you are good to go.

Caution is good, however in this case , no need for it.

You were correct. Not that I doubted you!

Does Amex usually report a new account right away, or after the first statement? I'm curious to see what *D my existing Gold and my new MB Platinum do to my AAOA (and scores!).

I've been told they update 5-6 days after closing date. Mine has already been updated.

That's what I recall also. I just checked and my first statement date isn't until 9/22. Ugh, it's a half cycle off from my other Amex.

Congrats my friend!

Thanks.

I'm spending the $200 airline fee allowance on my trip to DC next month. I thought I had twelve months, but it goes by calendar year...

Congrats cv, mine updated a couple days after first statement closed.

Great! My existing Gold Card statement closes next week and should report with the new (old) date, then the new Platinum should report toward the end of September. Can't wait to see what the AAOA does to my scores!

Just like you rep told me you have to wait 5 days between approvals for new app. Got approved after 1 day. Probably should have attempted to app same day to avoid extra inq...or maybe that waiting period only applies to "similar products"...
