Lol. I have someone I want to ask, but how to bring up this subject and explain why to a non CB member will be uncomfortable.

Its uncomfortable. Especially if they dont know about AU. It just sounds like you're asking for a co-sign or something. When I'm ready to do this I will probably offer money and explain it really well to whoever I find.

A little background: I got an Amex Delta gold card in 2006, and then got unemployed and it charged off in 2008. I paid off the chargeoff in January of 2012, and was finally approved two weeks ago for the Delta Gold again (after applying FOUR times).

When I got my card, it said "13". On the website, it said "Member since 05".

Ebuddog: Hi, my member since date is incorrect on my card.

Rep: It sure is! Let me get with the printing department to see what the issue is.

(puts me on hold for 5 mins. I'm kind of getting nervous)

Rep:

Okay, looks like they printed up a whole bunch of cards at once, that's why there was an error. We'll get your new card with the '05 date in the mail to you today

Me: Thanks!

So, does this mean when it reports it will report back to '05?

Yes

My "member since" date is correct online but wrong on my card.

It reports correctly, back to the earlier of the two (which in my case is the web site). I really don't care what it says on the card.

The expiration date on the card will become incorrect, since I have no plans to keep it that long. :P

You just have to keep calling till you get the right CSR.

It's easier if you're related to the Primary.

It is my grandmother's account.

Do I have to wait to get the actual card before contacting them or can I try to get the ball rolling sooner?

My sister recently added me as an AU to an AMEX Platinum charge card that she opened in 1994. I know that the charge cards don't help with Util but I added this account with the hope that it would increase my AAOA. I was under the impression that when it reported I would "inherit" the entire history of the card from the original opening date.

The card reported on EX and EQ yesterday and it shows an open date of 5/2013 with no previous history. It actually dropped my AAOA since its reporting as only opened for 1 month. Is that the way AMEX reports AU,s?

It didn't drop my score because I still have an AAOA of 3.2 years. Can I have my sister call AMEX and try to get the reporting changed to the original open date of 1994?

If not should I have her remove me as an AU? It actually lowered my AAOA by 2 months so I suppose it can't hurt to leave it there if I ca get my own AMEX card down the road and

have it backdated to my AU date. Will AMEX backdate a new card to my AU date of 5/2013 if I get an AMEX sometime next year?

Read the Amex back dating thread.

The answer is there, I am sure BW will chime in with advise in the morning.

With Amex you need to move with tact.

When mine reported it reported correct date .

Thanks for the reply. I read through the entire AMEX thread.

So if I understand correctly I have to have my sister call AMEX and ask them to change the member since date on my AU account to 1994 and they may or may not do that depending on the CSR? I mean is it just about getting lucky with the right person?

What is the best thing to say. Would it be wise to say " I added my brother as an AU recently and the account reported as a brand new tradline. This has hurt his credit score due to it reporting as a new account and we would like to get the member since date changed to 1994. He will be using the card quite a bit but if we can't get the member date changed I would like to remove him as AU because the account is negatively affecting his credit score."

Just an idea. Any suggestions as to what to say is much appreciated.

In my case I followed the very good advice of BW.

KEEP TRYING TILL YOU GET THE RIGHT CSR.

I called myself.

Just said I want all my cards to have the same date.

It took me two years..

Maybe ten attempts, all failed .

Except. The last one.

I guess the right CSR.

Plus for I am not sure if that was the reason I was FR.

So be aware the risk is there I think with every out of routine request.

Just keep calling,

don't mention D*

don't mention AAOA

& don't mention FICO.

This happened to me too. I've been a member since 2002 and my fiance is 2012. We each had authorized user cards for eachothers accounts, but after three attempts, I closed the AU accounts because the CSR's wouldn't backdate for me.

My $.02:

Don't open your own AmEx first. Always become AU on an old account first, and get that D*, and then open your own and that will be very easy to D*.

I opened my own, and now am AU on old account, and D* is impossible after 20+ attempts.

That's probably good advise.
