me 73

wife 82

we both have member since date 1988 now. my next oldest is SLMA 1997. hers is some student debt beginning in 2001. going back to 88 is a pretty big (and impossible in real life) jump for us both.

Any experiences with BOA doing backdating, they closed one my oldest CC's.

No, my BofA AmEx says "Member Since 1982"

Reports as 1999.

I used to have a "Blue for Students" AmEx from about 2003 to 2007 - closed by issuer after it noticed baddies in my CR.

I just got my own BCE AmEx. However the card that came in the mail says "member since 2013".

On the web site, it says "thanks for being a member since 2010" (this is how long I had an AU AmEx - also BCE).

Nowhere does it say "member since 2003". Should I call them? Which dept? What do I tell them? Does AmEx refer to this as "backdating", or is this just

this board's jargon?

Call Card Replacement first to request that the "Member Since" Year reflect 2003 when you got the "Blue for Students"

If the CSR cannot find your old 2003 account, ask them to forward your request to "Research"

Do not use the term "Backdate"

Does the fact that it was closed by the issuer make any difference?

No, unless AmEx completely overlooked the previous negative association,

and decide to close your present cards for being under the 10 year forgiveness policy.

Now I'm worried...

By "10 year forgiveness", do you mean student loans or something? (I never had them)

My account with AmEx was never late. They closed the CC, because of collections on my other accounts (My CR is clean now)

Should I be worried about waking the sleeping dog here if I call about backdating?

I'm working up the nerve to ask a few people to add me to their Amex cards. How do I ask them? Most people dont know about AU and might think there's a risk to them like co-signing.

Other than them calling to add me will they need to do anything else or is that all they need to do and I can ask amex for the backdating myself? And would I call to backdate the AU tradeline or my own brand new amex account(when I get one)? Will they need to give me their account information?

Sorry if the info is somewhere in the thread, I've tried searching.

Also I remember "piggybacking broker" sites use to offer Amex but I checked the one site that I new yesterday and there is no Amex on their list. Has anything changed with amex au?

No risk to adding you if they don't give you the card, or account number.

Give them a copy of your SSN card.

If there were an easy process, this thread wouldn't be 41 pages long.

I forgot to post here but I received my updated card with the original member since date. I am waiting to see what the increased age does to my reports. I am waiting for the new Walmart scores to post.

So my buddy added me as an AU on his Amex so I can get the backdating (hopefully).

On the email I got from Amex it says: xxxxx has assigned you as an Account Manager with Full Access on their account.

I've never been an AU on any cc; Is this an AU worded differently?

Is this what I'm looking for for the backdating game to begin?

I want to make sure and do it right. This is my chance, I really need the age. Thanks

An Account Manager is not the same as an AU.

An AU has less privileges than an AM, but has an actual American Express card number.

An AM does not have to have a card number.

An AU can also be an AM, and vice versa.

I haven't heard of AMs being eligible for D* since they're not really Cardmembers.

And, yes, the AU is worded differently in that you DON'T get an e-mail. :P

I guess I should've posted the question in this thread rather than start anew.

"I haven't heard of AMs being eligible for D* since they're not really Cardmembers."

Sorry BW, but what is D*?

And will I be able to backdate to his member date being AM as opposed to AU?

Forgive my ignorance, thought I had this figured out, I knew I'd find a way to screw it up!

Thanks

You may or may not be an AU in addition to an AM. OTOH, since you are a AM you can open the account and see if you are also a AU.

As cash said, you SHOULD be able to see the AUs on that Primary Card account when you log in as Account Manager.

You do need to be a Supplemental Cardmember, aka AU, in order to have any chance of D*

D* is just an inside joke, stands for BackD*ate.

To throw off any A* lurkers who might read these threads. :P

Thanks.

To my chagrin, I had a feeling that's what D* meant. So basically, in addition to being an AM, I also need to be an AU. I can't do this process as an AM, where I stand now, right?
