BTW, keeping a low profile means not posting about a Member Since xxxx. ;)

But I didn't do anything untoward. I didn't piggyback on someone else's history, I didn't take advantage of a system glitch, and I didn't call to request that they backdate me. That's my actual Member Since date. I'm not even asking for a new card with my old date on it. dntknw.gif

PS: My REAL Member Since date is 1986, but I'm not going to push it... I'm not a COMPLETE salamander... heh

I was referring to F/R, and that AmEx reads these threads, and that they can figure out which cardmember since 1990 just got a Zync. ;)

Oh, I know that... was just saying that I haven't done anything wrong, and I can prove my income/assets are exactly what I said they are. It's just that this is 2012, and when I applied I gave my information for 2012... it would be pretty silly for them to judge me on 2011. If all they care about is my information from 2011, why didn't they just ask me that on the app? dntknw.gif

Filed a BK 7 IIB AMEX back in 06. My wife was preapproved for a Platinum and (she's) never had an account with them. If she applies and list me as an AU, will AMEX backdate myself? Or does backdating only apply to the primary cardholder?

There's a master thread here with all this information in it. Read through it to find information that may fit your situation. But chances are with an IIB still showing, esp. if you burned AmEx, they won't allow her to add you as an AU. Again, searching is your best option to find others' experiences that may match yours.

AmEx will not add AUs who are on the blacklist.

The year reported to CRAs by AmEx is the year of the primary cardmember's account.

IOW, you can't have a Primary Cardmember account of 2012, and have an AU on that account report as 2006.

BUT, you CAN have a cardmember since 2006 with cards reporting as 2006, and an AU account with somebody else as primary reporting as 2012.

Wait, are you saying that if I add an AU to my account today, it will report on her CR as 1995?

I think I flew under the radar with this one. I defaulted on a Blue back in college (2002) and I am on my mom's platinum, blue, zync, skymiles and clear. Her member since date is "2006" and mine is showing as "2001."

Hmmm, I would like to apply for an AMEX on my own again. AMEX sent me an offer letter for the balance a year ago, I may have to give them a call.

Maybe the reason for inconsistency on the blacklist is that you must explicitly be added to this list. If an account rep doesn't take the time to notate your information, it simply does not happen. It also may be more likely to be blacklisted with a higher chargeoff? And lastly, Amex policy could change with the times.

Many people have gotten back in with AmEx without paying them back.

I'd just go ahead and apply.

*IF* you're on the blacklist, you'll be denied without a hard pull.

*IF* you're NOT on the blacklist, and are still denied, all it's cost you is one hard pull.

I've had plenty of AU requests be denied because they were on the blacklist.

I've never had an AU be removed from my accounts for something they've done.

Maybe you can post the magic words in the Master Thread. ;)

Here is the truth I have learned in regards to backdating. The rep you speak to has no power to do the actual BD. They do have the power however to put the request in on the account to have the date changed to that of the AU card. When this request has actually been made for me, I am 2 for 2 (100% success). It did however the first time around take 4-5 phone calls to get a rep to make that request.

Be straightforward and friendly. Tell them exactly what you want. "I would like to put in a request to have the member since date on my account changed to the member since date of the card I am an authorized user on. Can you put in this request for me and have a new card mailed out asap? Thank you so much!"

How long can a card be closed and still be used for backdating? (It just hit me that the account number I carefully saved is probably a scrambled one, lol) It's been closed for nearly 11 years but was opened in 1989 - that would do a helluva lot for my AAOA, especially if I got two cards.

cash ran into a problem of his account number being recycled to somebody else.

Go for Zync now, it's only going to cost you one inquiry, and it MIGHT preserve that 1989 Member Since Year.

One last thing before I pull the trigger... Is 20% utilization too high for Amex? (I could probably have it down to 10 in 6-8 weeks and will wait if it's a big deal, but you've got me excited now, darnit!)

Priorities.

You're trying to preserve your 1989 Member Since Year, so you want to either:

1) Do it NOW, in case AmEx loses your previous account records, or

2) Wait to look as GOOD as possible.

IOW, yes, 20% doesn't look good to AmEx, who wants to see you PIF.

Flat-out denied, darn it. Well... I can always try again in a few months. I've been paying down DH's utilization and that's about done so my solo accounts are next.
