Macy's: 800-627-2909 (Credit Dept. - new credit, inquiries on upgrade to Visa, credit reporting issues)

I called for a CLI after opening a new card in-store. I think the iggy on these 'higher end' cards (Nordy/Macys/NM/et al) is to app in-store.

Does/did Macy's have a Visa? I know they have an Amex in addition to their store card.

The Macy's Amex is NOT an upgrade... It's a second account that will report as a new trade line and impact your AAOA. The benefits of the Amex beyond what the store card offers are so few that I cannot name a single one.

I apped (and was approved) for the Amex, because the research I did indicated that the limit would be higher if I in-store apped at the Amex, and I'm simply not interested in store cards I can't use elsewhere.

I'm pretty sure my app and follow-up CLI request would be considered confirmation that in-store apps net better results.

So, I avoided the entire mess of upgrades, etc...

Unless something has changed recently, they will not issue you a Macy's Amex unless they also give you a Macy's store card... so you got two trade lines, which doubled the negative hit to your AAOA compared to just getting the store card.

I knew the answer before I called, but I once dialed customer service to cancel my store card but keep the Amex, and the CSR kept reading from a script that had nothing to do with what I was asking. More probing questions just led to her skipping to another section of the script.

It was sad, really, but she would not deviate into humanhood and admit that this was really silly.

My AAOA is not very long, but it's otherwise bulletproof. I can soak up two hits, though I'll not be very happy about it.

I just took a look and the account isn't reporting yet. I'll be sure to pop back here and post what happens.

BTW, did you app for the Amex or did you upgrade?

I fell for the term "upgrade" when I couldn't afford to lose the AAOA, and in case you didn't notice I'm still just a tad bitter. :P

After some thought, it occurs to me that if I was approved for 6k on the Amex, and assuming I now have two trade lines, is the store card a zero dollar limit, or would it be a 6k limit?

My card average is taking a hit, that's for sure. I've been keeping track of card average and approvals, etc..

They are separate accounts with separate limits.

My Macy's store card is at $1,200 () and my Macy's Amex is at $6,000 ().

Reconfirming:

Just a quick follow-up for cv and any others reading - last post on the subject.

My new Amex line reported and there's no sign of a store credit line. Only one reporting at this time.

The BOA Business card number is not working. I called 800-881-4730 and said it was for a business card, and they offered to transfer me. I asked for the direct number before being transferred.
