Sunday, unexpectedly, we lost one of our own.  After a sudden diagnosis of liver cancer just two days before, our very own mama Breeze lost her battle with this disease and passed away on Sunday afternoon.   She passed peacefully surrounded by her family.

We know that many of you will be as devastated as we are to learn of this, and we know that you will share in our grief.  We will be in the Feedback forum with you, sharing our memories and our tears.  We encourage you to join us there.

We started on this journey fifteen years ago - breeze, Pam, LKH, and radi8.  Through everything that has transpired over the past fifteen years, we have always remained family - and Mama breeze was an integral part of that family.  We will be posting additional information here, as much as we can while still respecting her desire for privacy and anonymity.  For now, while we process our grief, we will close this notice with Godspeed, Mama.  We miss you so much already.

One price if by cash; another if by credit

With New Jersey gas prices averaging $2.53 a gallon, the Rockaway Exxon was offering a better-than-average deal if customers paid in cash. But for pulling out plastic, they would have to pay 18 percent more. That's another $5 to $12 to fill the tank, depending on the size of the car.

...and they are not even paying 5% for the credit card fee

100% FACT

What is the rest of the money for???

I bet $1.00 that all the stations across the street and down the block are with-in $0.01--->$0.05 of the cash price

(AND YOU CAN USE YOUR CREDIT CARD)

...unless it was like the ONE place that tried that SCAM and was $0.10--->$0.20 higher than everybody else for the CASH price

(AND YOU CAN USE YOUR CREDIT CARD)

So who is willing to pay cash to save money?

For an 18% discount, I would even pay in coins.

That's the first I've ever heard of such a huge differential between cash/credit prices.

Personally, I think it's probably a one-and-off publicity stunt.

I strongly doubt that the Morris County gas station will keep that differential for long unless other stations are willing to take them head on (in which case it would temporarily dispel my beliefs that gas companies participate in an "unspoken/unwritten collusion").

Gas in northern New Jersey is cheap compared to New York City prices. But the gap isn't as big as it used to be (I recall an average of 30-40 cent differential between Bergen County gas prices and NYC prices about 15 years ago. Now, it's more like a 15-20 cent differential)

and besides...the miles are already accumulated for the coins and this is just putting them in circulation :P

07866 ROCKAWAY NJ ZIP CODE

Plug it into my search for gas prices

http://autos.msn.com/everyday/GasStations....p;x=15&y=12

$2.529--->$2.809

(none are $2.939)

George,

1) It's probably a one-off publicity stunt

2) Databases are not always reliable all the time. Though I daresay card users will probably drive by and go to the nearest pump that has more reasonable prices.

Ehhh....the small restaurant i frequent adds a "10% PITA" fee for credit and debit cards. Owner says dealing with the CC companies, waiting for money etc isn't worth the money, and he wouldn't take them period if not for his partners (wife) insistence. He has been in business for 41 years and is still packed everyday for breakfast and lunch.

many of hte online price sites will show the lowest price for a grade, not the split pricing.

As to the specific station...it is worth noting that it appears the particular station is not in the ZIP code cited given that there were NO Exxon stations that I could see in the page of listings...

Would I go out of my way to save 40 cents or so a gallon? Not likely. Would I pay cash to do so once I was there? You betcha...even if it was only the Miata and the 10 gallons it takes per month.

PAY WITH THOSE "SPECIAL" $1.00 COINS THEN

or

CHARGE BACK THE 10% FEE THAT IS A VIOLATION OF CREDIT CARD POLICY

I know they are not 100% accurate with prices

(at the same time it shows that their "CASH PRICE/CREDIT PRICE" is nothing more than a SCAM)

sounds like a small business that wants to fail.

IMHO, they are doing a sound business as long as they offer payment type choices to customers.

IMHO, they should focus on creating a business model that means they are profitable enough to deduct biz expenses from their tax liabilities. unprofitable businesses should go the way of the dinosaurs.

I saw a "cash only" gas station someplace, and it had no cars at it. 1/4 mile down the road was a Mobil which had most of the pumps with cars at them.

ONE CASH ONLY PLACE finally moved into the 20th century (NOW TAKE CREDIT CARDS)

They are now packed with cars at the pumps (before they only had two cars in the parking lot **EMPLOYEES** and nobody at the pumps)
