I applied for a First National Bank of Omaha credit card with a 740 FICO score on Equifax, that is who they pulled according to my Equifax daily monitor. I had ZERO inquiries on my file.

I get a letter of AA today in the mail and it says:

"Your request did not meet our credit standards due to the following:"

EXCESSIVE CREDIT REPORTING AGENCY INQUIRIES

WTF, there were ZERO in Equifax,

BUT...here is the kicker...they said they did not pull EQ, they said to contact:

ICS- Consumer Inquiries Advanced Resolution Services

6111 Oak Tree Blvd

Suite 400

Independence OH 44131

800-392-8911

Are they a new credit bureau? Never heard of them, I am gonna call FNBO tomorrow and ask a supervisor review the file b/c this is ridiculous.

That service tracks applications for Visa cards independent of the CRAs. If you have applied for several Visa cards in the last year and had the inquiries drop from EQ due to *B* or disputes they will still have a record of the inquiries. US Bank/Elan and their co-branded cards also use this service.

EFX may not be who they based their decision on even though they used EFX in the process, and they provided you with the contact information for WHO DID provide the information they based the decision on.

FNBO has been a tough nut to crack for a LONG time (even back in the days before internet applications existed)...

Yes, there was an inquiry from FNBO on EQ the day I applied, they took 7 days to deny my app.

Nobody is saying they DIDN'T pull EFX. However, from their letter, the decision to deny was not BASED upon the EFX report. The seven days is because FNBO is one of the banks that still does manual underwriting for most of their decisions (something MORE banks OUGHT to be doing).

The fact that the inquiries on EFX didn't match what was being seen elsewhere probably tossed up a red flag or six.

Deletion of inquiries is NOT something that is consequence-free...and threads like this illustrate why a report 'free' from inquiries is not all it is cracked up to be...

Another reason to leave bank cards alone and try for CU cards.

Only problem here is this is a Visa service and CUs could also be using it though I'm not aware of any confirmed reports of it being used by CUs.

B) Yanno Shawnee, if its Visa, they got to be! Seems like Visa instituted the contract for this

Makes one think that Visa, who doesn't lend money, wants to control how many cards a person has.

That wasn't the point of this service, at least in the documents I've read. It was designed as an anti-fraud arm of Visa. Of course it has now also proved to be a valuable tool for creditors to weed out applicants who know how to play the inquiry game.

Not me, I'm in the process of starting out fresh with no applications for two years. It's a lot easier to lay off applications for a while and then limit your future applications to those you really want/need, at least IMO.

I've now gone 367 days since my last card app. Frankly there are not many products I am interested in. Two do stand out but I have to wait until my BK falls off EX for one (Chase mileage plus) and I am probably blacklisted for the other (FIA Fidelity)

In the next couple months I am going to ask for CLI, even if they result in hards. I just got hard free CLIs from barclays (ameriprise) and HSBC (weekender).

what card(s) are you thinking about applying for once your hiatus is over?

Addison and Patelco. I'm through with the major banks as far as any new applications. UMB may also be a possibility.

I might try UMB myself, but I think I will wait awhile and see if things don't settle down. I already have Patelco and I am looking for a third CU card.

ICS can be frozen, but they can pull based on address alone without name, so they can see all apps at the address. If you have a naughty roommate, you are screwed because even freezing won't help.

If you haven't done so already, this would be very helpful info to have in the Credit Pulls database. :D

No on Alliant, Penfed, and Addison. Don't know anything about CCFCU. My other CU card is Community America CU local to Kansas City. That is why I might try UMB. It's local and I'm a little fed up with the national banks at this time.

:D Marty, I might have mis abbreviated it, its Christian Community Federal CU.

Except for the select few who seem to lead charmed lives I think a lot of us feel the same way.

Addison and Alliant appeal to me. Patelco I have but don't use much these days.

No NASA and I took them off my list when they started hitting some people with inquiries on all three CRAs. Already in with Alliant.

2% cashback card would be worth 3 or 4 hards IMHO.

how do you like Alliant?

After waiting for two years to rid all of my reports of inquiries I'm not sure I want three in one application. Besides, there are a lot of good CUs who only pull one.

I like Alliant, particularly their deposit accounts. Their cards are okay but they're very conservative with new members. I'll be hitting them up for a CLI next year.

Shawnee, what do you see as special about Addison? I just check out its rates and nothing caught my eye. Did I miss something?

High limits on credit cards. As I recall their deposit rates weren't so hot.
