Word on the street for those of you that have run into deposits in the past is that AT&T Wireless is going to be A LOT more lenient this holiday season starting next week until New Year. This is primarily due to the current economic crisis impacting the "holiday sale's bottom line." So, your are less likely to get a smaller or no deposit at all over the next few weeks.

As always.... YMMV

Don't you mean "more likely to get less or no deposit"?

Yeah, sorry. People will get smaller deposit requirements or no deposit at all.

How about you just let me PRE-PAY like $200--->$500 and then DIRECT BILL TO MY CREDIT CARD EACH MONTH after the PRE-PAY is gone

I can't grasp the deal that they THINK it should be "APPLIED" for...

Ok, I"ll bill you. What's your card number? I'll ship you the phone as soon as the charge goes thru. Note, I don't accept AMEX..... er... wait... don't have to worry about that one with you GEORGE.

I hear but have no verified that when Wally gets iPhone that the price is going to drop by $100.00 bringing the 8GB to $99.00 and the 16 GB to $199.00. That's a water cooler rumor right now. Wally was supposed to get iPhone right after Christmas but now I hear after New Year's. It does have some validity to it however because that explains Wally getting rights to sell iPhone being delayed until AFTER the holiday season. Another thing that also points to this potentially being true is that AT&T is significantly expanding capacity on 3G channels specifically for iPhone again like they did prior to iPhone 3G launch. They are definitely planning something big. I'll copy and past today's email (non-confidential) and the techies here can take the data and analyze themselves:

In support of the growth of our WAP services, AT&T has added a new WAP Gateway to our VTC data center. Please note the IP range for this new gateway ("VTC Internet Advertised Ranges NGG") listed in red below. Failure to open firewalls to this new range of addresses may result in a failure to connect your application or service to our network. Please add these ranges to your firewall rule sets by December 28, 2008.

For additional details, please review the updated Network Specifications on the Central Web site.

Proxied (e.g., WAP/HTTP through the WAP gateways):

STC Internet Advertised Ranges MAG1 209.183.32.10 /24

STC Internet Advertised Ranges MAG2 166.216.128.0 /23

If you think that any of these gateway changes may affect your teams service to AT&T subscribers or have an impact on user experience, please contact network engineering to let us know.

Additional ranges for new gateways coming in the February and May 2009 time frames will be published soon.

Thank you again for your contributions to the AT&T network of products and services.

Best regards,

The Network Engineering Team

PHONES CAN BE TURNED OFF IN LIKE 38 SECONDS (like insurance/internet/home phone/cable/etc)

Why would you "NEED" to check credit for a product you can shut off at your whim in 38 seconds

Because overage charges of $0.35 a minute exist as well as data charges for non-data plan holders, and text message charges, etc. You can rack up a hell of a bill if you go over your minutes.

Like I said, I'm not in marketing. I'm on the network side. I don't write those rules.

Sprint just "lifted" my pre-approved spending amount, like it was $200.00...???

Reason: Since I had perfect on-time payments. My current cell bills are $33 and change a month. WTF???

They also sent me a brochure of their new phones.

I have a corporate discount from my fathers business, so I have great deal already, and I will stick with Sprint.

I just don't need a new phone now.

So I should wait until after Christmas for my iPhone purchase... I planned on buying one the day the first gen came out so I have been waiting a long time. I was planning on buying one this week but if I can potentially save $100 I will wait 3 weeks.

No need to upgrade unless you want more iPod storage.

Enter into iPhone 3G keypad: *3001#12345#* CALL

Under UMTS RR info if you see "URR CBP State" then all you need is an update come next June and you'll be screaming.

Current field tests are showing 200 + MB/s downlink and 40+ MB/s uplink on a full cell. :D
