I think a lot of the things you say can be perceived to be "out of order" to some people. It's all opinion-based. But I don't go around saying that you are demeaning people. That's ridiculous. If you came to me like a man and said that you didn't appreciate that thread, I'd be more receptive. But, you didn't do that. I was SERIOUS about the questions I asked. I agree with you to a point about some things you say about credit cards. But sometimes, I think you babble on with the hate for cash. I mean, I see new threads from you everyday bashing cash in one form or another. So, since you hate it so much, I asked you questions about your solutions. You never answered them, you rather dodged them. That's lame, brother.

I've never said I hate cash. In fact I pick up spare change out of the gutter all the time.

where have I said I hate cash? Sure I talk about problems and dangers of using it as a means of exchange. But I hardly hate it or dislike/disrespect people who use it.

Why would I start a thread to respond to your closed thread? Your questions were stupid and off base in that thread anyway? I've never said cash should be illegal or never used. Given your penchant to hound me why would anyone think you were even being serious, despite your pleas in this post? I don't understand why, since you seem to disrespect me so much, you choose to post so many replies to my threads in the first place. Obviously you've decided you don't care for my opinions; hence why should I take you seriously?

and if you perceive my comments in this or another thread as out of order please use the "report" function to alert the moderations. Thanks.

To be honest with you, I have a LOT of respect for you. I reply to so many of your threads because frankly, they are the only threads that I really open up. That's a compliment to you. I value your opinion and respect your opinions. Plain and simple. There are things we agree on and disagree on. But I will say one thing. I don't think you can look back at my posts and say I disrespected or demeaned you any. We are having adult debates. That's all. If I met you in person, I'd shake your hand, take you to Panera or McDonald's, and buy you lunch. I'd have a conversation with you about money. Trust me, many of the things you say, I just take in and store in my memory bank.

Well then you know I don't hate cash. I like counting piles of money :P

I also often post stories about how people should budget well and not overspend.

If I have a point with my madness it is one size does not fit most; although I admit that point may get lost in the frenetic manner I communicate at times.

The last time I went to McDonalds was in Europe. Panera's is ok, but I prefer ma and pa type places...I am a square-meal, square-deal kind of guy.

I agree 1000% about the no one size fits all thing!!!!!

As I said before, I agree with lots of the things you say. I think you and I both agree and disagree with some things Dave Ramsey says. I'm a bigger fan than you, though. You think he's an salamander, I don't. LOL!

Oh, how time can change things. Back during Thanksgiving,11/27/08, I was pro for credit card. Now with the economy in shambles and the ratejacking, cld on all my cc, and some closures on my business cc, I have change to pro debit card as my cc debt continue to decrease. Awesome!

So you enjoy the zero float time and zero rewards with DEBIT

:dntknw:

Not to mention the RISK of debit card fraud taking all your money and then some from your checking account

("IF" IT HAPPENED)

You can still use credit cards that have been CLD'd (although it is much harder to when the credit limit is lower than the monthly spend amount)

Be careful about adverse action from "EXCESSIVE PAYMENTS IN A GIVEN BILLING PERIOD"

(It can be taken as you are having financial problems by some banks)

AMEX is one of them (or they were...unless things changed)

Will you quit saying that you are risking your entire checking account. You are not. From what I have read, people that had fraud didnt notice until they check their statement.

To prevent it, check your account at least every two business days. I check my account at least once a day, sometime twice. See fraud, pick up a phone, get the card hot listed and request a new card.

If you cant take 15 to 30 minutes out of each day to check your checking account, credit card account you do not need them.

I'm certainly not as anti-debit as some here, but even I find the need to check one's checking account every single day a bit excessive. It shouldn't have to be that way.

FTR: I feel the same way with credit card accounts, too.

Wow, way to dig, was this on page 30 of your "debit card horror stories" google search you do every 15 minutes?

not hardly. I guess you prefer consumer remain ignorant about the pitfalls of debit cards. debit cards a mostly good for unprofitable merchants; not so much for many consumers.

but then you and your pals can't pass an opportunity to bash me.

debit cards are too high maintenance. how many consumers check balances each day? not many. I have one co-worker that does not even use online access. he would not know about a debit compromise until the paper statement came from his bank.

I overstated the fact when I said all cc was cld. About a half of the ones I have left, have not cld. I still have enough credit left for any major emergency and I am glad I have it. My decreasing debt is causing my scores to rise ever so slowly up. I really need to reduce debt for it easiest way raise

my scores. I have issues on my credit that need to be address in order to raise them. This will take some time to do.

Hege, he has us on ignore :-)

I know several people (including my SO) who check their checking accounts just once a week. And some accounts she checks just once a month. And this is a person with scores above 800.

  • 10 years later...

Dear Sir or Madam:

I hope this message finds you well. I am recently back on CreditBoards after a hiatus of over a decade. In this time, I have moved several states, in and out of several homes, jobs, and relationships. What a comforting constant to realize that my account here is still active and in good standing. So, thank you in advance for reading.

I have a quick question for Mr. Hegemony or other qualified members with tenure. You see, I joined this site 14 years ago while a college student living in a dorm, and at that time, there was a most entertaining user here who made shrewd work of bold, underline, colored text as well as creative interpretations of card network policy. I found this most inspirational and it kept me returning to the site. Since that time, I have stewarded my credit well with no baddies and now have achieved a FICO (not FAKO) of 835.

This gentle man educated me on some of the finer points in life. For example, a love of PEPSI, and a most ardent appreciation for the DELTA AMEX card (now I have two).

I have fond memories flying home from college one time back then, and challenging an employee in the airport gift shop where I had attempted to pay for a soft drink (could have been a PEPSI) with my card. She made the egregious error of asking me for -- wait for it -- my ID. Let me tell you, I showed her who was boss, and directed her to the signature panel (duly signed) on the reverse of the card. Most regrettably, she stated it was her manager's policy and she could not complete the transaction without ID. The water fountain would have to do, and it did.

Anyway, now as I notice my own grey hairs in the mirror in my 30s and recall fondly this kind man, perhaps a grandfather himself at the time, I realize I have forgotten his name and turn to you for help.

Is this upstanding mentor still reachable here and if so, how may I contact him? I would love to know what he is up to and how he spends his time.

Best regards,

Chad
