I think its more fun to drink beers around a firepit than to wait 1.5 hours in line to get into a club.

 

I'd be just as happy or more with a jeep than I would be with a hummer.

 

I'd rather own 1 share of class A berkshire hathaway than own 2,000 shares of petro china.

 

I'd rather own a house than a high rise condo.

 

 

And I don't feel special when people address me as 'sir', I believe that we as human are equals.

 

 

And I know for certain, that many people who 'escalate' themselves to the 'higher class' style of life, are absolutely miserable vs the life of the common man.

 

I am the common man. I wear levi's, I drink beer, I eat everyone else eats, and I share what little I do have in the scope of this world, with those around me.

It's funny, I always figure that people buy hummers as status symbols. However, relatively speaking, they're not expensive vehicles...heck, I could afford one. But god knows why I would buy one, they're horridly ugly and impractical cars. I'm much more satisfied with my old Jeep Grand Cherokee.

LOL. I want to know if the simple life is better. better than the complexities of life where you have no time to spend the $$ you make. Less money and more time + better quality of life? the simple life?

For me the simple life is WAY better. The kids hang with totally different friends, you know your neighbors, the school is the center of the community, you have time to sit on the back porch with friends and a bottle of wine and watch the sunset, if you're in need there's many people to help. Add to that you're not always looking for the latest status symbol because nobody else cares - high fashion and overalls mix without effort. If you're remodeling or doing a barn raising people line up to help. You can put the word out that you're looking for a tractor and former strangers come to your door to talk about what you should buy and become friends. When you tell your 9 and 14 year old they can have friends over for dinner the ages at the table range from 6 to 17 and they all get along and talk.

I think a simple life, according to my own standards, is better than a more complicated or decorated one. I don't measure my happiness according to ones endorsed by society, but want to be happy and comfortable. For me, simplicity is being comfortable with what I have while still striving to be what I want. It's working very hard towards my goals because they make me happy and not because of how other people would perceive me. Perhaps, then, simplicity derives from being able to live for one's own self, as doing otherwise inevitably brings complications into the equation.

Oh I dunno. Other than being able to pay your mortgage, keep the electricity and heat on, go to the doctor when you need to, keep your car running, put your kids through school, save for retirement when you DO have time, donate to charity or help out area families, keep clothing on your back...

I can't think of much use for it.

When we bought our house it was out of our price range. My husband and I sat down with the kids. We explained to the kids exactly what they'd be missing out on (materially, more than anything). We made a pact that as a family that until our incomes increased almost every bit of fun we had would take place in and around the house. No vacations, no new cars, no fancy clothes, etc. You want to have fun? Make it. Climb a tree cause you aren't gonna have the latest video games.

 

It's a decision I will never regret.

When we want those extra "toys" it comes form side work which is voluntary.

Some things we did not do because I couldnt do them before. Including our ( awesome)friends who started hanging out at our home because I could not go places.

Now that I can go do those things they just dont appeal to us.

 

 

Last night our neighbors 3 year old invited us to bring our dogs to play I spent most of the night disscussing imaginary friends, ,mermaid curtains,getting imaginary makeup done,wishing on stars , watching the moon rise ,playing with dogs etc..

Way more fun then going out or working dbl shifts like I did in the past.

If you have your basics covered (food, clothing, shelter, medical care etc) the rest is a matter of personal preference, I'd think.

What sort of lifestyle would a 70% cut allow you to live? Comfortable? Meager? Somewhere in between?

I would have to drink domestic beer
